Steve and I talk about the concept of PLEs, which includes physical and virtual spaces and tools. We also show how increasingly the institutional learning environment is opening up with project such as Bboogle and Google/Moodle integration. We final present our vision of how things may be and infact we can see some examples of such learning environments already (Sakai 3.0 OAE, Canvas) that can be classed a Open and Cloud based learning environments.

9. Bboogle:Motivation ‘Why Google Apps in Blackboard? To leverage the collaboration features offered by Google Apps To provide data sharing capabilities in Google Apps not implemented in Blackboard. To allow students to see class activities integrated into their personal calendars. To offer wiki features via Google Sites To model an approach to sharing that is common in many scholarly communities To offer instructors an easy means of providing information that integrates seamlessly into the students’ information environment’ (Sourcehttp://projects.oscelot.org/gf/project/bboogle/docman/?subdir=200 )
10. Moodle:Google Moodlerooms and Google have worked together to build a state of the art integration. The 1.0 version of the integration provides: 1. Moodle users are automatically created in Google Apps (Google Docs, Calendar, and Gmail). 2. When you log in to Moodle, you are automatically logged in to Google Apps. 3. A Gmail block in Moodle displays your latest Gmail messages when you login to the Moodle Front Page. 4. A Google Apps block on the Moodle Front Page displays links to your Google Start Page, Google Docs, Google Calendar and Gmail. 5. A Google Widget shows a link to Moodle on the Google side. 16. MetaphoriCLE “When there is a new environment, for example barren rock, a few pioneer species, such as lichens begin to grow.” – CMS as the Pioneers. “The acid from these decomposes some rock particles, and their own death creates a coarse soil. This is suitable for mosses, which require little soil” – PWTs making inroads into CMS. “In turn these decompose to enrich and deepen the soil, until it is suitable for some grasses to grow. The process ends with the establishment of a stable, climax community.” – Dawn of CLE or Open VLEs? From Martin Weller’s Blog http://nogoodreason.typepad.co.uk/no_good_reason/2010/07/succession-and-the-art-of-stretching-a-metaphor.html#comments
Institutions that have Gapps (Edu) have all their students using GApps as their PWTs. If other popular personal web services allow GApps for sign-on then all PWTs can be accessed using GApps accounts.
