Holi is celebrated to commemorate the victory of good over evil when the demoness Holika was killed by Lord Krishna. People wear white clothes and apply colored powders and water balloons to each other, making it known as the Festival of Colors. Some of the traditions include wearing white to show off the colors, using flower colors instead of chemicals in some areas, and throwing ice instead of colors in colder places.
