1) The document discusses the process of creating and distributing flyers and brochures to advertise a private school. Black and white flyers were initially distributed but did not generate many calls.
2) Color brochures with pictures were then created and distributed, which doubled the number of calls and enrollments.
3) The document reflects on lessons learned about audience awareness, design, flexibility, and determining fit for a long-term career in graphic design.
9. Process For Building the Panels
• First, we drew out a sketch so we would know
what materials we needed to buy.
• Then I called Lowes and Home Depot to
compare prices. Home Depot gave me a quote
of $200.00 to $250.00, while Lowes’s quote
was $230.00 to $275.00.
• Next, we bought the materials we would need
for four panels.

23. Process for Distributing Flyers
• We first took five hundred black and white flyers and
distributed them throughout neighborhoods and businesses.
• After three weeks, we had received seven phone calls asking
about more information, resulting in two new children
enrolling. We weren’t really happy with these results so we
researched more statistics about advertising.
• We decided to make brochures with less words but also
pictures to correlate with the point we were trying to get
across.
• We took five hundred brochures and distributed them to the
same neighborhoods and businesses and received twelve
phone calls, resulting in four new children enrolling.
• This shows that our results doubled just by changing how we
advertise.
24. It’s a proven fact that you should
average about two to three calls
or orders, depending on the
advertising, per one hundred
flyers or advertisements. So we
decided to reconstruct our flyers
to grab people’s attention.

- Bachelor’s degree in teaching graphic arts (three years)
- Master’s degree in industrial management (one year)
She was the biggest help
with showing me how to
SANDRA sketch the fencing
correctly and designing the
SULLIVAN new flyers; she told me to
use multiple colors, not
too many words, and
pictures that correlate.
The reason I picked her was because she is my mom’s coworker at
her business and with my mom’s private school being slow on
business, I knew she could help the most.

schedules and abilities
Originally we were Place of distribution: We
going to make new were going to put all 500
flyers, but then we in businesses but we
wouldn’t be able to track
decided to make how many were making it
brochures and those to people. So we put 100
were a lot more in businesses and 400
expensive. went to homes.
28. • For advertising, you have to be aware of your
audience so you know what will appeal to them
(ex. Gender, age)
• It was interesting to see how colors and
positioning can grab someone’s attention so
easily if you do it correctly.
• For designing, you have to let your customer
make all the decisions even if you don’t agree
with how everything looks. Its about what THEY
want – not you.
29. • In order to complete a job concerning other people, you
have to be flexible with your schedule to fulfill what the
customer wants to do.
• Certain parts of the job wouldn’t be that bad but creating
layouts would probably be my least favorite part. I enjoyed
recreating the flyers to make them more vibrant and
noticeable by others.
• On the flip side, I feel like this job wouldn’t require day-to-
day communication that I would want in a career. After this
project, I’m sure I will use some aspects of print making and
the details to advertising but I could not see myself doing
this long term.
• I now know that I want a job that is more active with
people and I don’t think I would enjoy this job.
30. I want to thank you for

and I’ll be willing to
answer any questions
