MARIA’S ENVIRONMENTAL GOALS FOR THE STATE OF IOWA
• In addition to seeking a moratorium on confined animal feeding operations, I will support a new era of clean water for Iowa by regulating,
reducing, and eliminating nutrient run off to our lakes, streams and rivers.
• To maintain Iowa’s role as a leading producer of green energy, I will support a goal of 40% of Iowa’s power be generated by energy efficien-cies
and renewables like solar and wind power. Fossil fuel plants will see a decrease in output and carbon pollution.
• I will support legislation to increase flood plain protection by expanding water management practices that reduce future flooding damage
and taxpayers liabilities.
• I will support an amendment to the American Constitution stating that corporations are not people and money is not speech.
• I will support a biologically diverse landscape through protection of Iowa’s native and natural lands; urban sprawl and urban blight should
be addressed through a statewide study and adoption of statewide ordinances.

Maria was born in Merida, Mexico where she met her husband, Dr. Rundquist, who was a medical exchange student from the University of
Iowa College of Medicine studying Pediatrics. Maria became U.S. Citizen in 1982. Maria and her family became a part of Sioux City in July
1991, when her husband Dr. Rundquist, joined Prairie Pediatrics PC. They have four grown children and five grandchildren. Maria is the
proprietor of Rundquist Linguistic/Cultural Services, a home based business in Spanish services, Spanish Instruction, Translations, and Cultural
events. She has also been a Spanish Instructor at WITCC, as well as a substitute teacher at South Sioux City middle and high schools.
