It notes that as the Olympics approach, there is a need to coordinate volunteer work and training while also boosting interest in the Games. The volunteer training program for Sochi 2014 incorporates game elements and activities, such as an educational web portal. How does gamification achieve its magic?
Game Mechanics
achievement: a representation of having accomplished something;
cascading information theory: information should be released in
the minimum possible snippets to gain the appropriate level of
understanding at each point during a game narrative;
communal discovery: working together to solve a riddle, a problem
or a challenge;
leader-boards: the rankings of all individuals in a micro-set
and many other.

(now, go out there and invent new games!)
