Oilfield equipment an overview
1. Equipment in Oilfield Moving and Repair—An
Overview
With the growing need for oil the necessity of moving the equipment from old
location to the new oil field is increasing. Once a new oil field has been found
the extraction should be started immediately and thus the need for moving
various equipment like drilling dampeners, pulsation dampeners and many
more is vital to the oil extracting companies. As a result of this there is an
increased demand for drilling rig moving equipment. Oil industry companies no
longer invest in fixed drilling equipment. It is more cost effective to be able to
transport a drilling rig to new oil deposits than to go for new equipment as these
equipment are very expensive.
Modern oilfield drilling equipment are designed to be taken down and moved
from one well to another. A drilling rig comes apart in pieces. Drilling rig
moving equipment is used to transport the pieces to the new well location to
reconstruct the same equipment. This keeps costs down, and speeds up oil
production. Offshore oil rigs are made on land and then floated to where the oil
is. Offshore equipment needs to move the gigantic constructions. Once the oil
has been depleted the rig can be moved to a new offshore deposit.
Another important factor in oil industry is speed. Delays caused by equipment
failure needs to be kept to a minimum level to keep the extraction process on
move. Drilling rig repair equipment has to be available to prevent delays. For
example if a Drilling dampener or a pulsation dampener which is used for
checking any leakages in a hydraulic system is broken down then the overall oil
production per day may be hampered. The offshore rigs need to have most
repair equipment on the rig. They are usually isolated and it takes time to get
anything to the rig. It is also costly to have to shut down production due to
equipment problems. The faster the equipment can be repaired or replaced the
better it is for production.
Oil fields on land are often in remote areas. Depending on the location it might
take time getting equipment in and out. Having the repair equipment on site
makes sense. There is no point in having a well not producing if it can’t be
repaired. Waiting idle for some equipment is unproductive. If there is a problem
with a rig it has to be fixed without any delay. Drilling is a hazardous job. It is
vitally important that oilfield drilling equipment is safe and functioning
properly. If Oilfield equipment is not working then it has to be repaired or
replaced as fast as possible.
