2. “Sky is the limit” says Mr Shivananda Pai, the CEO of manipalmart.com. Mr Pai started
manipalmart.com on 19th june 2009 after his graduation with student community as the
primary target segment. He started this site with an investment of Rs.6000 which was for the
web designing. It was his craze and passion for computers which lead to the start of
manipalmart. His curiosity to get answers for questions such as “how to get ranking from
Google?”, “how to create pages online?”, “how to use Google ads?”, “how to register domain
name?” has given us the gift of manipalmart today.
Mr Pai believes in honesty and hard work which has fetched more than 5 lakh clicks in a
year. More to our surprise, it has got one lakh clicks in the past month due to admissions. He
has done lots of research in order to reach this stage of popularity. He has made a research
right from the choice of the colour of the site till the identification of genuine customers.
The website uses transaction based revenue model and sellers paid commission on the
transactions facilitated by the site. Manipalmart recently got an affiliate with amazon.com. It
uses web 2.0 for the back end design. This site also is an infomediary which gives the users
the source list of various services available in and around Manipal. It has taken the words
“rental Manipal” from Google ad words. Initially, Yahoo had barred this website because of
the Google ads. Google pays the revenue for ads and believes that this site has a huge
potential.
Mr Pai during his interview says, “We don’t think that we need any introduction to our
service.”
Buy, Sell, Rent
The site provides the real estate option online. The potential customers identified by the site
are newly married couples who wish to have a flat in their home town or the NRIs who prefer
beach front flats. Online rental agreements are provided which can be used by the owner,
residing abroad and tenant who is in Manipal. This site provides an opportunity to the
residents of Manipal who are presently settled in abroad to sell their lands online. It allows
buyers to sell used items too which is one of the unique feature that manipalmart has been
distinguished for.
Print online job
Manipalmart has come up with a feature that facilitates the students in submitting the
assignments in time. The documents can be uploaded on the website with contact details and
will be printed in a short span of time. The upload is either accepted or rejected by the
website depending on the genuineness and are forwarded to the cyber centres which is
outsourced by the dot com. The process of the print online job can be clearly understood with
the exhibit 1 in page 10.
Online shopping
The website provides facilities like online purchase of bus ticket, railway ticket, flight ticket,
hotel reservation, rent a vehicle, request to buy book, recharge mobile and recharge DTH
services
Beauty parlour
A source list of available beauty parlours in and around Manipal is listed out in the site
which has gained maximum popularity

The browsers can call an auto to his residence from the places Sonia Clinic, Tiger circle, MIT
stand, KMC Main, Endpoint, Eswarnagar. The working of this service can be explained with
the exhibit 2 on page no. 11.
Cell phone recharge
This feature allows the user to recharge his mobile for either Rs. 100 or Rs. 200. There is no
additional cost on the services they provide but certain cases they collect 10% extra charge on
service. Paypal service is used to facilitate the payments.
Cooking gas
This feature lists the LPG Distributors in and around Manipal.
Courier Service
This feature lists the courier service providers in and around Manipal.
Departmental store
This feature lists the departmental stores located in and around Manipal.

etc), pickles, appalam and other necessities. User can just send his order through e-mail about
his requirement with full details, quantity also from particular place (speciality).They reply
with price details and other remarks will be sent by the website and they wait for the
acknowledgement for supply of items.

They act like a care taker between hospitals and patients so that patients will get ultimate

the students and paying it through paypal which is the payment gateway.
Police station
The site has collected information which might be required by the students studying in
Manipal during emergencies.
Foreigners Registration
Foreigners should submit their applications along with the registration forms with full details
in person. Registration is not required for the visas valid upto 180 days. Similarly prior
permission for leaving the country is not required if the visa is valid upto 180 days. However
this rule does not apply to Pak Nationals and Afghan Nationals. Foreigners having a visa for
more than 180 days should get themselves registered within (14) days of their arrival,
whereas Pak- nationals should report their arrival within 24 hours and all Afghan nationals
are required to register themselves within (7) days of arrival in India irrespective of their visa
validity, before FRO concerned. Extension of visa beyond 180 days will require registration.
Children below 16 years of age are exempted from registration with foreigner’s registration
officer. However, they are required to obtain residential permit and are not exempted from
this requirement for getting extension of stay. All application forms are made available free
of cost at City Special Branch located in the premises of the office of The Commissioner of
Police, Infantry Road, Bangalore City. Foreigners have special endorsements [each visit six
months/ each visit shall not exceed 180 days] in their visas do not require registration and
departure clearance; but registration and leave India permission are required, if their stay
exceeds 180 days or six months. Adults should submit [5] photographs and minors [3]
photographs. Proof of address in shape of ration card, telephone bill, electricity bill, etc.
should be submitted. Two sets of passport and visa copies should be enclosed. Guardians
should submit the undertaking letter for dependent foreigners. Foreign students coming on
student visa should submit bonafide study certificate of a recognized institution along with
HIV test certificate, bank account statement and rental deed. Foreigners coming on business
visa should submit the RBI permission. Foreigners coming on employment visa should
submit the employment agreement papers/ undertaking of the employer or company. A
PENAL fee of US $ 30[or equivalent amount in Indian rupees] has to be paid by foreigners

6. overstaying in India or for not registering with the Registration Officer within the stipulated
period and for grant of Restricted/ Protected area permits.
Visa extension
Extension forms will be issued at F.R.O’s office (1+3). Foreigners should submit application
along with the extension forms with full details and reasons for extension. Adults should
submit [5] photographs and children (minors) 3 photographs in case the photographs
submitted previously have become old. For proof of residential address, ration card or
telephone bill should be submitted. In case of Indian spouse, marriage certificate issued by
the recognized government Registrar should be submitted in duplicate (two sets). Foreign
students coming on student visa should submit bonafide certificate of recognized institution
along with HIV test certificate, bank account statement and rental deed. l Foreigners coming
on business visa should submit the RBI permission for the extension period. Foreigners
coming on employment visa should submit the employment agreement papers for the

Police Clearance Certificate for obtaining passport
For the Police Clearance Certificate the applicant should apply for the same at the Passport
Office concerned. After verification by the Special Branch a report will be sent to the
Passport Officer for issuing of Police Clearance certificate (PCC) by the Passport Officer.
VERIFICATION OF PASSPORT APPLICATION The following aspects are being verified:
1. Whether the applicant is a citizen of India or not
2. Identification of the applicant with the photograph on the personal particulars form.
3. Whether any criminal case is pending against him /her in the court of law.
4. Whether his/ her case attracts the provisions of Sec 6[2] or 10[3] of Passport Act, 1967.

ineligible for the grant of passport facilities.
The Pak nationals on their arrival at Bangalore City have to report before F.R.O. Bangalore
within 24 hours of their arrival. After reporting they will be provided with residential permit
(RP) for the visa period by the F.R.O.Bangalore.
Pakistani Nationals
Requirement for extension of visa on short term visa basis for the Pak
Nationals Extension of Visa is being granted to Pak nationals on the following grounds for a
period of one month by FRO Bangalore under delegated power and by the State Government
up to a further period of two months, one month at a time beyond the authorised period of
validity of the Visa. Grounds:
Serious illness of the Pakisthani national or his first degree relations.
Death of first or second degree relations
Marriage of first degree relations settled, or date changed after the arrival of the Pak nationals
Disruption of means of travel
PROCEDURE FOR GRANT OF EXTENSION ON LONG TERM VISA (LTV) TO PAK-
NATIONALS Grant of visa to PAK-NATIONALS visiting INDIA is governed by the INDO-
PAK Visa Agreement 1994 as amended from time to time. This agreement provides for issue
of only Short Term Visa(STV). However instructions have been issued from time to time in
the past regarding grant of Long Term Visa(LTV) to the following categories of Pak-
nationals: Member of minority communities in Pakistan (Hindus and Sikhs) ; Pak-women
married to Indian nationals and staying in India; Indian women married to Pak-nationals and
returning due to widowhood/ divorce and having no male member to support them in
Pakistan; and Cases involving extreme compassion.
FOR CATEGORY (I):
Application along with Form-B, guarantee affidavit, indemnity bond, challan of Rs.15/-, (8)
latest passport size photographs Photo copy of the valid Pak-passport. For further extension,
if any, for a period of 2 years only application along with Form-B and Photo copies of valid
Pak-passport and challan of Rs.30/-.
FOR CATEGORY (II):
Safety tips for Residential Areas
1 Hire qualified / experienced security guards only
2. Check the antecedents / credentials of the security guard and domestic servants before
hiring them. Insist on references from their previous employers. Furnish their full particulars
to your police station in the format suggested by them
3. Always employ different security guard for day and night duties
4. Secretaries of Societies are advised to brief all the security men / security guard / lift men
about various aspects of security. Some of these are: To make an enquiry if a taxi or auto-
rickshaw is seen parked inside the compound or outside the building for a long time.
To inform the police in case they find any vehicle parked inside the building (if ownership is
not known) for a long time.
5. Secretaries of societies are advised to brief all residents on the following:
Whenever they employ a new servant, the local police station should be informed. His or her
photographs, fingerprints and other details should be obtained and submitted to local police
station.
They should be advised to install a door with iron bars inside the flat, superior quality night
latches and special eye lens on the main door. Ideally, interaction with strangers and vendors

8. should be through the grilled door. High wattage light source with pilfer proof cover outside
the main door should be installed.
They should not keep huge amounts of cash, valuable ornaments etc., in the house.
They should avoid discussing money transactions and other important family matters in the
presence of servants/ outsiders.
* They should not humiliate servants on petty matters. Nor should they penalize them for
small damages.
6. It is important to inform the police about any suspicious happening or unclaimed object
found in suspicious circumstances. Extend full cooperation to the police.
7. A special register should be maintained in every society and kept in the custody of the
security guard / watchman or in the society's office. Whenever Police officers visit the area,
they should get an entry in such registers.

national husband, challan for Rs.15/- for the first extension. For further extension, if any, for
a period of 2 years only application along with Form-B and Photo copies of valid Pak-
passport and challan of Rs.30/. After due enquiry of the genuinity, the proposal of extension
of stay on LTV s being referred to the government of Karnataka State for further action.The
Pak national has to submit an application along with Form-B, guarantee affidavit, Indemnity
bond, Photo copies of marriage certificate, (8) latest Passport size photographs of the
applicant, Photo copies of valid Pak Passport, Photo copies of Indian Passport of the Pak
nation
Print Photo
This feature allows the user to upload a photo and take a print of it. It gives an option to the
size of the photos which must be entered along with the personal details for verification.
Recharge DTH service
Website does the recharge for Big TV with an amount of Rs. 500 which would be done
through paypal. The other providers and options for recharge amounts would be added on in
the near future.
