Sustainable procurement process overview Fundamentals : the higher level organisational and procurement policies and strategy that provide the strategic context to support sustainable procurement practices. Procurement process : an overview of a generic and typical procurement process highlighting the sustainability issues that should be dealt with across various parts of the process. Enablers : the ways of working, competencies, practices and techniques that the organisation needs to have in place to support the procurement activity. Many of these mirror the basics of good procurement.

Gives detailed guidance across all stages of the procurement process and is applicable: to individuals and small/large organizations responsible for commissioning/procuring any form of goods, works or services regardless of sector to public, private or third sector across whole procurement cycle from one time purchases to ongoing contracts with long term supplier partners those solely responsible for purchasing or outsourced procurement providers. As well using case studies, the standard also includes useful tools for users such as example questions for buyers, an example risk and opportunity plan, a stakeholder mapping template, a communications planning template, etc. Finally since the public sector has to work under slightly different constraints from the private sector due to the EU Procurement Directives and the UK implementing regulations, there is also a separate annex for the public sector.

It is not an add-on or a tick box consideration but must be embedded throughout the procurement process.
