A few days after capturing the Class 4A baseball state championship, Tomball head coach Doug
Rush was continuing to take it all in.
"It's starting to soak in a little more," said Rush, who directed the Cougars to a 35-4 championship
season that included victories over Wichita Falls Rider in the 4A state semifinals (5-2) and Corpus
Christi Moody in the finals (6-1) last week at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
"We are real proud of the players and how they kept their focus and kept their eye on the goal of
winning state."
Tomball started the 2013 season with a 22-game winning streak, and after capturing a District 22-4A
championship, the Cougars beat Reagan 10-0 in a playoff opener.

Next up was a scheduled best-of-three area series with Friendswood, but weather shortened it to
one game that took two days to complete (started Friday night and finished in less than a half inning
the next day), and the Cougars survived 4-3.
Tomball's only postseason loss followed in an 8-6 setback against Ridge Point, but once again, the
Cougars responded with wins of 6-0 and 13-0 to keep going.
"We really played very good baseball after the loss to Ridge Point," Rush said. "We had set it up to
where we still had our top pitchers after that first game, and the team just really clicked from then
on."
The Cougars swept Montgomery 4-2 and 16-4 in the next round, and won their first region title by
beating Foster 10-0 in the 4A-III finals at Rice University.
"(Senior) Ishmael Edwards' walk-off three-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning in the
first game with Montgomery was another big postseason moment that really stands out," Rush said.
Tomball loses 18 seniors to graduation with six lettermen returning in 2014 including pitchers
Braeden Holub and Stephan Bonnain, left fielder Josh Covey, third baseman Robbie Gillen and
catcher Casey Smith.
"Three of our five playoffs before state were one game, and the Friendswood series turned out to be
a fluke one-game playoff," Rush said. "Our players just kept battling and moving forward, and it was
just a tremendous season."
4. "We have a good core coming back including two really good varsity pitchers," Rush said.
The Tomball junior varsity finished 22-4 and also won a district crown.
