  1985-1991
Defined

A state of political hostility between countries,
characterized by threats, violent propaganda, subversive
activities, and more.

It was between the United States and it’s NATO a#ies,
and the Soviet Union and it’s sate#ite states.
Yalta and Potsdam
They a# gathered to decide the fate of the
defeated Nazi Germany. The establishment
of post-war order. As we# as the peace treaty
issues.

Took place in 1945

It was the decision to divide Germany into
two different places. West Germany, which
was democratic and East Germany, which
was Communist.
Truman Doctrine

It was a policy that the U.S. would support
Greece and Turkey with economic and military
aid to prevent their fa#ing into the soviet sphere.

Marsha# plan: A program of financial aid and
other initiatives, sponsored by the US, designed to
boost the economies of western European
countries.

Containment: A program of financial aid and other initiatives,

The Berlin Wall

It was the separation of the democratic and
communist sides of Germany on August 13,
1961.

The Berlin airli' was when the U.S. gave
economic aid to Berlin.

The Iron Curtain symbolized the ideological
fighting and physical boundaries dividing
Europe.
Mao Zedong

He was the chairman of the central committee
in 1945.

The great leap forward was a 5 year plan, much
like Stalin’s 5 year plan to improve the
economical growth.

The cultural revolution was basica#y when Mao
le' the main seat of power and began to start a
revolution for the people.

Space Race/ Arms Race

The space race was the race between the U.S.
and the USSR to space. This was to prove
technological superiority and mark themselves
in history.

The arms race by definition is a race between
two parties to produce the most weapons and
build the largest armies as possible. This
despite a# of the competition is what happened
between the U.S. and the USSR.
Korean War

The Korean war was a war between the Republic of
Korea and Democratic people’s Republic of Korea. It was
fought because of the political division of Korea. The 38th
para#el is the border between north and south Korea. In
the result of the war the Chinese came out with a sense of
national pride and Mao gained more political influence.
Vietnam

This war was between north and south Vietnam.

During the war the U.S. decided that they would give aid to the South if they would
not conform to communism.

The Vietcong were a political army of Southern Vietnam.

The end of the war was technica#y a stalemate, nobody rea#y lost. as far as the United
States, we packed up and le' as soon as the fighting stopped. The Casualties for the
U.S. was said to be around 1.1 mi#ion.
