The beautiful flower baskets and cross block plants have now been taken down and removed for another year. Thank you to the CCDA Streetscape crew who did a great job all summer long. The CCDA is currently working with the City to review the traffic light system downtown to see what can be done to improve the pedestrian walks and the safety of pedestrians with the recent injuries of 4 people in the past 2 months downtown. 2 injuries of which happened at the corner of 3rd St and 6th Ave in a matter of one week. The City will be making this a priority and I will keep everyone apprised of any outcome. Exciting news with the council approval of the purchase of 603 First Street to River Street Development Corp. With the plan of a multi-purpose commercial/residential project consisting of two four-to-eight story towers and underground parking, this could be the “tipping” point to revitalizing the downtown core! Downtown parking is still a big issue and something I’m still working on. There are still problems with business owners and employees parking on the streets taking up spots for paying customers. Decreased accessibility within the downtown can be a major deterrent for customers and you wouldn’t want to be the cause of that. It goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway!), if you take that little bit of extra time to park elsewhere, you will be opening up your building for even more potential customers. You might find it slow to start, but once the word gets out, things will begin to pick up, so stick it out and with the advertising on the radio, newspaper, posters and magnetic boards we should start to see results. We would like to continue the late night shopping into the Midnight Madness on November 24th. A full 70% of all consumer spending (locals and visitors alike) takes place after 6:00PM. Are you open? And you wonder why downtowns are dying while lifestyle retail centers are thriving. The CCDA Development Committee has decided this year that we will be placing Christmas lights in Batus Park on 2nd St, as the infrastructure of downtown is not feasible for hanging lights or decorations on the light standards. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to view lights and decorations that will not be used in Batus Park and take them for FREE to use for decorating on downtown buildings. Yes, I said for FREE! Any stakeholders who do take these lights will be responsible for upkeep and maintenance of them. Should the business close or move out of the downtown core, the lights or decorations will be returned to the CCDA to be used for other stakeholders.A date and time will soon be arranged for any businesses’ interested in this great opportunity. For more information contact the CCDA office. 00We are now going into our third week of late night shopping. We’ve also had some interest from some stakeholders regarding a secret shopper. We’ve received a package from Premier Service in regards to this. If you would like to see how your business and customer service is, this is a great opportunity to find out where you are lacking or doing well when it comes to serving your customers.
