1.
2. The four films I deconstructed were:
Rocky, Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy and
Inception. These four action movie
deconstructions have several things in
common such as they all show focus on one
main character for example Inception shows
us ‘Mr Cobbs.’ which tells us he is going to be
the main character in Inception see the full
deconstruction for more information. Two of
my deconstructions also have another thing
in common which is they
3. start with Non diagetic soundtracks to this normally
builds tension. My four action movie
deconstructions all have extreme close up
establishing shots, This is to keep the viewers in
suspense and wonder what is actually going to
happen in the movie. For example in my Matrix
deconstruction the establishing shot shows a close
up of a police officer, telling us that he is looking for
someone, who we don’t know.
My four deconstructions have another thing in
common which is that there seems to be tension or
fighting between characters, In Rocky there is two
people boxing and in Inception a character is
approached by a gunmen.
4. In the first two minutes of my four action
movie deconstructions we are shown the
main character straight away, this makes
the viewer wonder what their story is and
why they have ended up where they are.
For example I deconstructed Inception and
the establishing shot is a close up of the
main character lying on the beach, this
immediately Makes us curious about what is
going on.
5. The establishing shot also shows the
audience where the movie is set by
usually tracking around the area this
setting the scene. In the first two minutes
you also now there is some sort of villain
involved but is not normally seen in the
first two minutes of a movie this keeps the
viewer in suspense.
6. The research I have collected from my 4 movie deconstructions
and the PowerPoint I have done on the Genre ‘Action’ has
made me aware how important the use of setting and
diagetic sound is this not only sets the scene for the viewer it
tells us what is likely to happen in the movie. The movie that
supports this is the Bourne Supremacy which I deconstructed
and is in my research PowerPoint. (Slide 25.)
7. The four movies I deconstructed for
research all started with diagetic sound
and a extreme close up of the main
character I believe this is used in action
movies to create tension, and create a
mysterious atmosphere.
8. I have learnt the similarities of all action
movies they all remain around one main
character, who normally is fighting some
arch enemy. Also I have learnt that my
deconstructions have many things in
common such as establishing shot.
