West Coast
A challenge to you dear reader; fall asleep and dream of the best holiday you possibly can. I tell you for
a fact that when you wake up and go to South Africa's Cape West Coast, your dream excursion will
have nothing on the magical West Coast.
Picture this; the sun dangling lazily in cloudless skies over crystal clear ocean waters that end in an
expanse of fine white sand. Before you open your eyes, create an image of endless plains of vividly
coloured flowers with gentle grey hills tapering off in the horizon. Lastly, let your mind's eye gaze up at
powdery waterfalls tumbling down in the midst of mossy rocks into a staid green pool in a hidden
scene that seems to have been hitherto undiscovered.
These romantic images do not even capture half of what Cape West Coast has in store for those who
choose to make it their preferred holiday destination.
It is difficult to fully describe the diversity of geological attractions present in this region, but we'll try.
Let's start with what you will find on the miles of coastline; it is after all the West Coast. Heart-melting
scenery is the first thing that comes to mind, particularly the dazzling colours and shades the sun
produces as it rises and sets on the edge of the waters. Small wonder many couples have made this spot
their wedding location and honeymoon getaway.
And if you were looking for a place to hide from the rigours of the daily grind and regain your peace of
mind, it doesn't get better than a balmy afternoon under a parasol at Cape West Coast sipping your
cocktail of choice. There are several bars as well as open-air restaurants at the beach where you can get
your seafood dish of choice.
Touching down at Cape West Coast between August and November is a particularly good idea as you
will probably get to see Humpback whales frolicking in the blue waves.
The West Coast's multifaceted landscape is shared by a number of parks including West Coast National
Park, Cedeberg Wilderness Reserve and Grotto Bay Coastal Nature Reserve. These provide hikers with
challenging trails and game drives that offer tourists glimpses of Africa's abundant wildlife, including
the leopard.
Bird watchers are also in for a special treat; the Berg River Bird Hides are home to over 200 bird
species including flamingos, pelicans, kingfishers and black-winged stilts. The Bird Island is a known
breeding ground for various species as well with the African penguin being just one of the many birds
that flock here regularly. Click here to Rent a Car
