their service and sacrifice.
 Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan Greenert holds an all-hands call with
Sailors aboard the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) during his visit to
Singapore to discuss the importance the new platform will play in security and defense.
Greenert also visited the ship to get direct feedback from the crew about the ship's
performance.
 The Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group completes a western Pacific deployment. Peleliu's
return to Naval Base San Diego follows an eight-month western Pacific deployment.
Peleliu visited different ports such as Thailand, Oman, Australia, Bali, Jebel Ali, United
Arab Emirates and Hong Kong.
 The multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), along with
embarked Marines from the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (26th MEU) arrives in Eilat,
Israel for a regularly scheduled port visit.

 An unmanned underwater vehicle submerges during International Mine Countermeasures
Exercise (IMCMEX) 13 as the Afloat Forward Staging Base (Interim) USS Ponce (AFSB(I)15)
operates in the background. IMCMEX is the largest exercise of its kind in the region and will
exercise a wide spectrum of defensive operations designed to protect international commerce and
trade, such as mine countermeasures, maritime security operations and infrastructure protection.
 Chief Cryptologic Technician (Technical) Juliann Gonzales embraces her daughter before
departing Naval Base San Diego aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor
(LSD 52) for Pacific Partnership 2013. Pacific Partnership is an annual Pacific Fleet

led by the Royal Canadian Navy taking place in the waters west of Vancouver Island.
 Sailors from Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit (MDSU) 2 participate in Ardent Sentry 2013.
Exercise Ardent Sentry is an annual U.S. Northern Command exercise focused on scenarios to
support civil authorities, when requested, with military capabilities to save lives, prevent human
suffering, and mitigate great property damage.
 Sailors conduct an aircraft barricade drill on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D.

responsibility promoting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and
support missions as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
 Sailors load their weapons during an M-16 rifle qualification shoot on the flight deck of the
forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46).
 Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 11 participate in helicopter
medical evacuation training during a field exercise. The battalion is evaluated in various areas of
readiness before a deployment cycle. NMCB-11 is a Seabee battalion specializing in contingency
construction, disaster response, and humanitarian assistance.

wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans, as well as an international team
representing the United Kingdom, compete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and U.S. Air
Force Academy.
 Midshipmen from the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2016 conduct early morning physical
training as part of the U.S. Naval Academy Sea Trials. Based on the Navy's Battle Stations and
the Marine Corps' Crucible, Sea Trials is the capstone teamwork evolution for the Naval
Academy freshmen class. The plebes navigate physical and mental challenges, ranging from
obstacle courses, long-distance group runs, damage control scenarios, and water training.

directed by a wrangler, are clearing invasive plants in a safe, cost-effective, and sustainable
manner. The goats arrived in April and will work until mid-June.
