• A 3 piece girl band from London.
• GENRE- Pop Rock.

• Got noticed at a talent scouting audition.
• Signed to Rough Trade Indie Records.
3. BACKGROUND STORY.
Dragonfly (Joely, Charlotte and Megan) were originally best friends when at their secondary school
in South East London. They all took music at GCSE where they discovered their true passion for
music and talent. They each had specific instruments that they played and therefore decided to
become a band, which was DRAGONFLY. They started off performing together in their spare
time, just for fun and pleasure, uploading videos to YouTube, MySpace and creating their first
group Facebook page. They first realised they had true potential when they won a music talent
competition within their school called Battle of the Bands. This inspired them to take it more
seriously and realised they wanted to aspire to be a famous, successful girl band. With this in mind
throughout the next 4 years, they gigged at as many venues as possible, for example, local schools
events, local pubs, main park festivals, charity events etc. At the age of 18 the girls were now old
enough to enter higher talent auditions. They found about a local talent scouting, which they went
and auditions for, where they were noticed by the Record company, Indie label Rough Trade.
Rough Trade then took on Dragonfly and put them on the market, where they performed to larger
audiences and secured a consistent fan base and web presence. Dragonfly started off their career
by performing at Introducing stages at big festivals, interviews and live lounges with radio and
magazine companies, such as NME, Radio One, XFM. The main gig that started off Dragonfly
was when they were the supporting act of the well known girl band, Warpaint at Brixton Academy.
This widened Dragonfly’s fan base and after releasing their first number one single they are now a
successful girl band in the music industry.
4. IMAGE/COSTUME IDEAS
• Edgy but cute styling. E.g. Heavy, dark makeup but still
looking pretty.
• Clothing will either be quite rocky or tame and
girly.
• The styling will be inspired by the Indie, Bo-ho
look.
• Our look would be seen as an individual, laid back
style.
• Care about their appearance and style but NOT
provocative.
5. LOCATION IDEAS
These are a few location ideas that we have, where we
Want most of our music video to be shot. We have
Chosen places like Greenwich, Camden and Brick lane.
These areas are all very urban and vintage locations which
Fit perfectly with the style of our band.
6. • We also wants to include lots of vintage
shops in our music video, either us
running past them or actually being inside
them trying on clothes. This keeps to the
idea of us wanting to look vintage and
edgy. These types of locations are perfect
to the look we want to portray.
7. VISION OF VIDEO
The vision that we have for our video is for it to be fun, energetic and professional. As our
song is so upbeat it will be easier to create an atmosphere in our video.
We would like our video to have a continuous performance element to it, which will be us
performing the song lyrics and music. We have changed the ideas that we previously
wanted, where as now we want to have elements of us lip syncing the lyrics in a specific
location, preferably down a small street in Greenwich and have a narrative running through
the music video. The ideas that we have came up with are that we like the idea of having a
group of fans/groupies following us as a band and us running away from them. We also
want to include elements of advertisement of the band through out the video, which could
include posters of us up on the street walls and t-shirts with pictures of us on. We also want
to include us performing the song, preferably in the chorus of us on stage in front of a
crowd performing the song.
We also want to include montages of the band outside of the performance, such as, in
different locations, shots representing our personalities, which will help promote us as it will
show what we are about. We hope that these shots will convey a sense of free spirit and
youth, which will make a connection with the audience. We want to begin our music video
of image stills of us, in a vintage effect (INSTAGRAMS) which will show us in more of a
natural light and show we are quite unique in the style we have.
8. This is what an instagram effect looks
like. It has lots of effects that you can
choose from and makes any picture you
take look vintage and old fashioned. This
is great for us to take pictures of the
band and use them at the beginning of
our music video, as we want to have that
vintage look throughout our video.
9. TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience for our band is mainly • Favorite bands most likely to be
females ranged from the age of 15-25. Paramore, Warpaint, The killers, Arctic
Monkeys etc.
The reason for choosing this age group is • Likely to shop in Top shop, H&M, Urban
mainly because of the genre of music the Outfitters, Vintage shops.
band makes. This will appeal more towards
• Likely to wear on trend clothing and
the younger generation as they are more open
accessories. For example, skinny jeans, collard
to different varieties of music. shirts, floral printed skirts, leather, studs etc.
• Likely to go to gigs and festivals.
Due to our genre being POP ROCK our
target audience will be more specific because • Likely to spend spare time listening to
they have to be into the type of music to be music, going out with friends, socialising and
able to like and appreciate the band. partying.
• Likely to take care in their appearance and
have a sense of individuality.
11. RECORD LABEL
Rough Trade Records is an independent record label based in London.
It was formed in 1978 by Geoff Travis who had opened a record store off Ladbroke Grove.
Having successfully promoted and sold records by punk, very early Indie Pop and early post punk
bands such as Buzzcocks and The Smiths.
We chose Rough Trade as the bands record label because we researched into the artists and bands
Rough Trade manages. Our genre and style fits perfectly into this record label, as we are a pop
rock indie band, similar to the artist they already have.
