3. Fauves: After the Impressionists
• The word “fauve” is French for “wild beast”
• The Fauves were known for their use of color
and emphasis on shapes in their paintings
• The Fauve movement was small and consisted
of 2-3 French artists in the late 1800’s

• Make a painting in the style of the Fauves,
using wild, imaginative color and thick, brushy
strokes focusing on shapes and patterns
• The subject matter is up to you. Just be
original!
