You have one homework “pass” per marking period.
This does NOT mean that the homework does not
need to be completed; you must turn in your work
the next day for full credit. Any subsequent late
homework will receive a zero. Any late papers or
projects will lose one letter grade for each day they
are late. Unused passes will receive extra credit at
the end of the marking period.
Homework Policy
The class website will
be your go-to spot for
notes, extra help
resources, printable
papers, and much
more.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
What does it mean to be an American?
What are our rights and responsibilities?
To what extent does the media influence
our opinions? How does the government
provide for the common good while still
securing our individual liberties and
freedoms? Civics and Government focuses
on the principles, structure, and power of
our national and state governments. We
will emphasize civic
participation, particularly why is it critical in
a successful democracy. This course will
leave you armed with a knowledge of
government and politics that will help you
interpret and analyze the conflicting
opinions that you encounter everyday at
school, at the dinner table, on
TV, facebook, Twitter, etc. My goal is to
help create a generation of voters who
have knowledge of our political
system, particularly their rights within it, a
thirst for information, and the tools to
make informed decisions at the polls.
CITIZENSHIP
Be prepared. Be on time. Be respectful. Be
accountable.
Be consistent.
Ghosts are…
RESPECTFUL to self, others and property
RESPONSIBLE learners and citizens
ACTIVE participants in school and community

Cheating/Plagiarism: Don’t Do
It!
Plagiarism on papers and
projects, cheating during
tests/quizzes and copying of
homework will NOT be tolerated.
All parties involved will receive a
ZERO on the assignment and I
will contact home. Look at it this
way – do not GIVE answers and
do not TAKE answers. Both are
considered cheating.
What if I’m absent?
Make-Up Work - As soon as you
return, check for missed in-class
and homework assignments.
Extra papers will be available in
the classroom. If you have any
questions, please see me.
Tests/Quizzes – If you are absent
for a test or quiz you must see
me to schedule your makeup.
We can set up another time that
is convenient for you. The test
must be taken within a
reasonable amount of time once
you return to school. We will
determine this time frame
together.
What is service learning?
Service learning is a vital component
of the spirit of Abington Senior High.
Our students engage in service to
their community, while choosing
projects that interest them. Helping
others is tremendously fulfilling and
will be an unforgettable part of your
high school years. All 10th grade
students are required to complete 15
hours of service by June.
Opportunities will be highlighted each
month in the “Service Station”
newsletter and you will reflect on your
service in monthly journal entries.
START NOW!
“Opportunity is missed by most
people because it is dressed in
overalls and looks like work.”
– Thomas A. Edison
I will ALWAYS respect and
appreciate your BEST EFFORT, so
give it your all!
Extra Help
I am always available if you have
questions or need help. I am accessible
during periods 4, 5 and 7, before and
after school by appointment. See me
after class so we can set up a time and
place for you to get extra help!
