2. Intranet Implementation Plan
This document outlines the scope, roles and responsibilities and project timelines associated with
the development and maintenance of Paoli Hospital’s Palliative Care Intranet website.
Vision and purpose
The purpose and vision of the Paoli Hospital’s Palliative Care Intranet is to offer an extension of
supportive services to clinicians, nurses and social workers through an online centralized
repository of Palliative Care and Pain Management information. This facilitates communication
with healthcare teams and patient families in dealing with patient comfort and support for endof-life decisions.
This support extends to other hospitals served by the Main Line Health
System through its RedDot® Content Management System infrastructure.
Strategic objectives
The Intranet site will provide internal and external information pertaining to Palliative Care.
The focus of this site will encompass only Palliative Care initiatives provided through Paoli
Hospital’s department and will be controlled and maintained by the department’s Palliative
Care / Pain Management Coordinator(s).
Critical success factors
To successfully develop a fully functional Palliative Care site, the following are required to meet
this deliverable:
Training, hosting, system availability and technical support from the health system’s
Information Services.
Availability of department personnel to provide content for web pages, supporting
materials for the system and guidance in website hierarchy.
Approvals of hosting or copying copyrighted materials will be obtained or initiated by
the Palliative Care / Pain Management Coordinator prior to the completion of a
development environment site.
Conversion of documents to site-specific format will be completed by department
coordinator. Assistance will be provided by project lead or other health system
technical resource.
Technology
All Palliative Care information will reside on the Main Line Health System’s RedDot ® Content
Management System and will use the RedDot® Content class templates utilized by other
departments within the health system to ensure consistency of look and “feel”.

source documents, graphics and conversions of these documents to Portable Document Format
(PDF).
Deliverables

Project schedule
The illustrated project schedule identifies estimated durations and sequencing of activities to
ensure this project is completed by April 20, 2010. Changes may result based on resource
availability, scope or other risks either identified or unknown.
Content development
All content for the Palliative Care Intranet will come from existing internal and external
sources. Any content to complete site web pages will be developed by hospital resources and
proofread and/or enhanced, if necessary, by the project lead.

5. Graphic assets
Graphics for the Palliative Care Intranet will be limited to enhance site performance and
aesthetics for optimum user experience. The site may incorporate images of departmental
staff; however, any further additions of images from events/conferences, etc. will only be
added beyond the initial “go-live” date and maintained by the department coordinator. Risk of
degraded performance as a result of additional image complexity is the responsibility of this
personnel.
Quality/Functionality testing
Testing will be done by departmental resources based upon the hierarchy established for the
site. Each hyperlink and page load will be tested to ensure there are no unforeseen
undesirable quality issues or poor performance. Any administrative tools within the RedDot®
Content Management System that ensure these links are functional can be used in lieu of user
hyperlink testing.
Maintenance plan
Periodic maintenance to ensure information relevance and operational links or external sites
will be the responsibility of the Main Line Health Systems personnel. Any system backup
procedures and technical support are managed by the Information Services of the health
system.
