    structured and manipulated is paramount for
    social workers working with children,
    families, and women.”
   “The role of women in economic
    environments and countries around the world
    is central to the chapter and critical in
    understanding how culture is shaped and
    changed in an environment of poverty and
    need.”
                                       (Lum, 2011)
   “In many cultures, women bear a huge
    responsibility for feeding and ensuring the
    health of their families.”
   “Aristide (2000) predicts that when women
    are in leadership positions and the budget of
    nations are in their hands, then food,
    education, and health care will be central to
    the health of the nation.”

   “Women play a vital role in the Economic and
    Global Forces of our world:”
   “The UN Millennium Developmental Goals
    may be met and will benefit and educate
    women and expand great possibilities for the
    world.”

   Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
   Achieve universal primary education
   Promote gender equality and empower
    women
   Reduce child mortality
   Improve maternal health
   Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
   Ensure environmental sustainability
   Develop global partnership for development

   “The role of women to help create a
    sustainable and safer world is recognized.”
   “The education of young girls reduces fertility
    rates and helps balance an unequal world
    population to promote sustainable futures in
    food, water, energy (Krauss, 2009).”

   “There have been a number of improvements
    to women’s lives in the past twenty years.
   Female life expectancy is increasing
   More girls are going to school
   More women are in the paid workforce
   Many countries have introduced laws to protect
    women’s rights.”

   Mr. Kofi Annan, in his role as Secretary
    General of the United Nations said, “There
    has been no breakthrough in women’s
    participation indecision-making process and
    little progress in favor of women’s rights to
    own land and property.”

    countries to adopt affirmative action programs
    that raise the number of women in politics and
    as of 2000, there were:
   Seven women heads of state in the world
   Three heads of governments
   145 countries have governments which
    included women.”
    (UNESCO,2010)
   Beijing +15, was held in 2010. The action
    plan over the next 5 years is addresses the
    following:
   Women, the girl child and HIV/AIDS.
   Release of women and children taken hostage, including
    those imprisoned, in armed conflicts.
   The situation of assistance to Palestinian women.
   Women's economic empowerment.
   Eliminating maternal mortality and morbidity through the
    empowerment of women.
   Ending female genital mutilation.               (UNESCO,
    2010)
   “Women constitute one half of the world’s
    population, they do two-thirds of the world’s
    work, they earn one tenth of the world’s
    income and own one hundredth of the
    world’s property including land.”

            ( United Nations State of the World’s women,
    1979)
   “Women are the deciding influence on the
    quality of life and well-being of their families
    and communities.”
   “They are the primary care- givers and
    managers of natural resources, including
    shelter, food, and consumption of goods, and
    have jobs or careers in the formal economy,
    in most cultures.”          (UNESCO, 2010)
   Water pollution in Uzbekistan has led to an
    increase in birth defects and complications in
    pregnancy.
   Pesticide exposures in Central Sudan are linked
    to 22% of hospital stillbirths.
   Air pollution in the Ukraine has been linked to
    21% of illnesses affecting women and children.
   One in three women in the USA will be
    diagnosed with cancer at some time in their
    lives.

   Education is the key to helping the women of the
    world.
   Educated parents tend to have healthier
    children
   Women are the primary healthcare providers in
    society.
   An estimated 75% of health care takes place at
    home.
   A woman who can read the label on a package
    of medicine is a more effective health care
    provided than one who cannot.

   “1 to 3 years of schooling for a other can
    reduce child mortality rates by 15%, as
    opposed to only 6%, when fathers have the
    same level of education.”
   “Educated women tend to have increased
    decision-making authority within the
    household.”
   “Education increases women’s chances of
    earning income outside the home- that can be
    used to pay for food, clothing, education, and
    health care for their families.”

   Teach women and girls to stay in school.
   The higher a girls education greatly affects her
    economy and HIV rate.
   Teach girls about sexual reproduction and health
    rights.
    Teach about marriage and violence against
    women.
   Teach about choices and opportunities.
   Teach about adolescent girls and girl across the
    nation.

Women's Role in Economic Environments and Global Development

  • 2. “Understanding how economics and race are structured and manipulated is paramount for social workers working with children, families, and women.”  “The role of women in economic environments and countries around the world is central to the chapter and critical in understanding how culture is shaped and changed in an environment of poverty and need.” (Lum, 2011)
  • 3. “In many cultures, women bear a huge responsibility for feeding and ensuring the health of their families.”  “Aristide (2000) predicts that when women are in leadership positions and the budget of nations are in their hands, then food, education, and health care will be central to the health of the nation.” (Lum, 2011)
  • 4. “Women play a vital role in the Economic and Global Forces of our world:”  “The UN Millennium Developmental Goals may be met and will benefit and educate women and expand great possibilities for the world.” (Lum,2011)
  • 5.   • 6. “The role of women to help create a sustainable and safer world is recognized.”  “The education of young girls reduces fertility rates and helps balance an unequal world population to promote sustainable futures in food, water, energy (Krauss, 2009).” (Lum, 2011)
  • 7. “There have been a number of improvements to women’s lives in the past twenty years.  Female life expectancy is increasing  More girls are going to school  More women are in the paid workforce  Many countries have introduced laws to protect women’s rights.” (UNESCO,2010)
  • 8. Mr. Kofi Annan, in his role as Secretary General of the United Nations said, “There has been no breakthrough in women’s participation indecision-making process and little progress in favor of women’s rights to own land and property.” (UNESCO, 2010)

  • 10. “Since 1995, women have used the ideas from Beijing to push for progress that spans nations and regions.  As of 2000 women have convinced a number of countries to adopt affirmative action programs that raise the number of women in politics and as of 2000, there were:  Seven women heads of state in the world  Three heads of governments  145 countries have governments which included women.” (UNESCO,2010)
  • 11. Beijing +15, was held in 2010. The action plan over the next 5 years is addresses the following:  Women, the girl child and HIV/AIDS.  Release of women and children taken hostage, including those imprisoned, in armed conflicts.  The situation of assistance to Palestinian women.  Women's economic empowerment.  Eliminating maternal mortality and morbidity through the empowerment of women.  Ending female genital mutilation. (UNESCO, 2010)
  • 12. “Women constitute one half of the world’s population, they do two-thirds of the world’s work, they earn one tenth of the world’s income and own one hundredth of the world’s property including land.” ( United Nations State of the World’s women, 1979)
  • 13. “Women are the deciding influence on the quality of life and well-being of their families and communities.”  “They are the primary care- givers and managers of natural resources, including shelter, food, and consumption of goods, and have jobs or careers in the formal economy, in most cultures.” (UNESCO, 2010)

Water pollution in Uzbekistan has led to an increase in birth defects and complications in pregnancy.  Pesticide exposures in Central Sudan are linked to 22% of hospital stillbirths.  Air pollution in the Ukraine has been linked to 21% of illnesses affecting women and children.  One in three women in the USA will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives.  (UNESCO,2010)
  • 15. Education is the key to helping the women of the world.  Educated parents tend to have healthier children  Women are the primary healthcare providers in society.  An estimated 75% of health care takes place at home.  A woman who can read the label on a package of medicine is a more effective health care provided than one who cannot. (UNSECO, 2010)
  • 16. “1 to 3 years of schooling for a other can reduce child mortality rates by 15%, as opposed to only 6%, when fathers have the same level of education.”  “Educated women tend to have increased decision-making authority within the household.”  “Education increases women’s chances of earning income outside the home- that can be used to pay for food, clothing, education, and health care for their families.” (UNESCO, 2010)
  • 17. Teach women and girls to stay in school.  The higher a girls education greatly affects her economy and HIV rate.  Teach girls about sexual reproduction and health rights.  Teach about marriage and violence against women.  Teach about choices and opportunities.  Teach about adolescent girls and girl across the nation.
