Reggaeton originated in Panama in the 1990s as a blend of reggae en español and local genres like bomba and plena. It evolved further in Puerto Rico with influences from hip hop, R&B, and Latin American genres like salsa and bachata. While having hip hop influences, reggaeton developed its own distinct rhythm and beat called "Dem Bow" and is not simply Latino hip hop. Some of the biggest current reggaeton artists mentioned are Daddy Yankee, Wisin y Yandel, Tito Bambino, and Kat DeLuna.
