2. Let us examine some things which the Bible shows us that mothers need.
Mothers Need…
I. Husbands Who Are Spiritual Leaders.
a. This is missing in so many families today.
b. Ephesians 6:4 NKJ “And you, ____________, do not ____________ your
children to wrath, but bring them up in the ____________ and ____________ of
the Lord.”
II. Husbands Who Are Encouragers. Too many husbands are like tenants.
a. Mothers need husbands who ________________.
b. 1 Peter 3:7 ISV “In a similar way, you husbands must live with your wives in an
______________ manner, as with a most delicate partner. ________ them as
heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing may interfere with
your ____________.”
c. Elkanah was an encourager.
1 Samuel 1:5, 8 NKJ “But to Hannah he would give a ________ portion, for he
loved Hannah, although the Lord had closed her womb.” 8 Then Elkanah her
husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you ________? Why do you not _____?
And why is your _________ grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”
d. A husband can encourage his wife by both words and deeds!
III. Commitment To The Lord And His Word!
a. Mothers do have a unique role in spiritual growth. One cannot overstate her
place in imparting faith to her children.
i. 2 Timothy 1:5 ISV “I am reminded of your ________ faith, which lived
________ in your grandmother Lois and your _______ Eunice, and I am convinced
that this faith also lives in you.”
b. But her commitment must be unswerving! Titus 2:4-5

c. How her children value the Lord and His word will depend in large measure on
what messages come from mother.
IV. Patience To Cope With Diverse Needs.
a. Mothers face variety, diversity, and chaotic conditions.
b. Patience! Patience! Poise! Poise! Where is this needed more than with family?
1 Corinthians 13:4 ISV “Love is __________ patient, Love is always ______, Love is
________ envious or vaunted up with pride. Nor is she conceited.”
c. Patient mothers raise children who are self-controlled, poised, collected
people.
V. Wisdom!
a. Mothers must be fountains of wisdom.
b. A good king benefitted from the wisdom of his mother. Proverbs 1:8; 31:1
c. Mothers need to develop richly here. To give a good example and instruction
for her children growing up in a scatter brained world.
VI. Courage One Day To ”Let Go”.
a. She rears her children to “leave the nest”.
i. This leaving implies “letting go”. Genesis 2:24
b. Children are prone to make mistakes, to get hurt, the mother “instinct” is to
hover and to protect.
Conclusion:
In Proverbs 31:10-31 we read about a virtuous wife who also was a mother. Let us
pray that the world be filled with good mothers such as her.
