•   Austria was settled in ancient times, occupied by
    pre-roman times by various Celtic tribes
•   The Celtic kingdom of Noricum was later
    claimed by the Roman Empire and made a
    province
•   Present day Petronell-Carnuntum in Eastern
    Austria was an important army camp which
    became known as Upper Pannonia province

•   Fifty thousand people Carnuntum their
    home for nearly 400 years
•   The first record showing the name Austria
    is from 996 referring to the territory of
    Babenberg March
•   With the death of Frederick 2, (Duke of
    Austria) in 1246, the line of Babenbergs
    were extinct

•   In Austria, you have to attend 9 years of school
    (to the age of 15)
•   Kindergarten education is free in most states
    and provided for children between the ages of 3
    and 6 years old
•   Maximum class size is 30 but, can be as low as
    15 children
•   Lessons begin at 8 A.M. and last to about noon
    or 1 P.M.
