Wind Energy Market in Turkey 2012




  Covering its energy requirement from fossil energy sources for the most part, Turkey relies on
  outside sources to procure energy required for its economy and different sectors. Similarly,
  Turkey had produced 83 pct of the overall electricity in 2008 out of fossil energy sources.
  Future projectors indicate that the energy requirement of our country would augment and
  foreign-dependency in energy would thus increase accordingly.

  The on-going studies state that especially hydraulic power and wind energy potential, as part
  of the renewable energy sources of Turkey, are highly important and each of these two
  sources has the technical potential to cover the electric production in 2008. The recent
  increase in the number of wind energy power stations can be related to the preparation of
  Turkish Wind Atlas, the preparation of legal arrangements to support private sector
  entrepreneurs and the rise in oil prices. Wind energy power stations are active in Marmara,
  Aegean region and the Mediterranean region witnessing more constant and strong winds and
  are anticipated to be founded in other geographical regions as well in the future.

Electricity Market & Facts
            Turkey needs 4 to 5 thousand megawatts of new capacity every year over the next 10
          years.
            The next 10 years will require an investment of $ 8 – 10 billion, to meet the demand of the
          electricity sector.
             The average age in Turkey is 29 and the youngest in Europe. That has an importance on
          further growth, consumption and industrialization.

Given the ever growing potential and the emerged wind energy market in Turkey
                     backed by legislative framework, the Ministry of Energy together with the main
                     R & D association of Turkey together works on the manufacturing of a local wind
                     turbine project called Mil-Res.




                     Development of National Wind Energy Systems and Prototype Turbine
                     Production (MILRES) project:

                     It has been initiated by a group of applied researchers through Turkish Ministry of
                     Energy to develop national wind energy turbine and technologies. The project has
                     been highly supported by the current government of Turkey in line with Turkey’s 20
                     GW wind energy target for 2023. The project provides opportunities for companies
                     known to be experts on the wind energy sector such as joint ventures with Turkish
                     counterparts, technology transfers etc.
