1. SOM-03-02 THE GOOD NEWS OF THE KINGDOM
• What's the best news you could ever receive?
• What's the best news our country could ever receive?
• What's the biggest problem with the world?
•
• What does our country need? Ano ba ang pangangailangan ng ating bansa?
• Our Church? Our Family?
• What does our country need to know? Ano ba ang dapat malaman ng ating
bansa?
Isaiah 40:21
• Don’t you know?
• Haven’t you heard?
• Haven’t you been told from the beginning?
• Don’t you understand the foundations of the earth?
Isaiah 40:21
Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you been told from the beginning? Don’t
you understand the foundations of the earth? God is enthroned above the earth, & those
who live on it are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the sky like a canopy & spreads it
out like a tent to live in. He makes rulers unimportant & makes earthly judges worth
nothing. They have hardly been planted. They have hardly been sown. They have hardly
taken root in the ground. Then he blows on them & they wither, & a windstorm sweeps
them away like straw. “To whom, then, can you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks
the Holy One. Look at the sky & see. Who created these things? Who brings out the stars
one by one? He calls them all by name. Because of the greatness of his might & the
strength of his power, not one of them is missing. Jacob, why do you complain? Israel,
why do you say, “My way is hidden from the LORD, & my rights are ignored by my
God”? Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The eternal God, the LORD, the Creator of
the ends of the earth, doesn’t grow tired or become weary. His understanding is beyond
reach. He gives strength to those who grow tired & increases the strength of those who
are weak. Even young people grow tired & become weary, & young men will stumble &
fall. Yet, the strength of those who wait with hope in the LORD will be renewed. They
will soar on wings like eagles. They will run & won’t become weary. They will walk &
won’t grow tired.
• Re 11:15 – When the seventh angel blew his trumpet, there were loud voices in
heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord
& of his Messiah, & he will rule as king forever & ever.”
• Ps 22:27-28 – All the ends of the earth will remember & return to the LORD. All
the families from all the nations will worship you because the kingdom belongs to
the LORD & he rules the nations.
Believers …

• Cover their spiritual emptiness, dryness, & unsatisfaction
• Passive & apathetic. Good intentions but lack of follow-thru
• MY needs, MY rights, MY opinions
• Spectator – watch, listen, but not participate
• Admit to busy, fast-paced, cluttered life & short attention span
• Arrange lives around personal desires, pleasures, & comforts
• Have separate ‘worlds’ in their lives – church, work, leisure, family, atbp.
• Do what is expected, more out of habit than desire
• Are spiritual sterile, barren, & nonproductive in witness but aren’t troubled by it
• Frustrated of trying to serve 2 masters—Jesus & someone or something else
• Proud at being independent & self-sufficient
• Keep options open & remain uncommitted in order to avoid getting tied down
• Have little or no sense of overriding spiritual purpose or cause & prefer to drift
• Cover up a quiet desperation inside – “There’s gotta be more to the Christian life
than this powerless state I’m experiencing!”

• “Jesus did not call the cross or His death & resurrection the good news. For Jesus,
the kingdom was the good news. The magnificent work of the cross is the beginning.
Atonement, reconciliation, redemption, justification, & propitiation are all essential

What is the cost of your repentance?
“If I want the benefit of salvation, it will cost me my personal sovereignty, my
independent autonomy, my own agenda, my ‘throne.’ Why? Because that is exactly what
I must be saved from in the first place!” Jan D. Hettinga, Follow Me

What is the Kingdom?
Development of the Kingdom in Daniel
Daniel talks a lot about the kingdom and shows its importance in the plan of God. What
does Daniel have to say in these verses?

What is the Kingdom?
Parable of the Sower – Mt 13
• “Listen to what the story about the farmer means. Someone hears the word about the
kingdom but doesn’t understand it. The evil one comes at once & snatches away what
was planted in him. This is what the seed planted along the road illustrates.
• What kind of heart? Closed & Hardened
• What is the problem? Self Absorbed
• “The seed planted on rocky ground is the person who hears the word & accepts it at
once with joy. Since he doesn’t have any root, he lasts only a little while. When
suffering or persecution comes along because of the word, he immediately falls from
faith.
• What kind of heart? Receptive & Enthusiastic
• What is the problem? When hardships come they get out because they will be
better off
• “The seed planted among thornbushes is another person who hears the word. But the
worries of life & the deceitful pleasures of riches choke the word so that it can’t
produce anything.
• What kind of heart? Receptive & Enthusiastic
• What is the problem? Competition for attention because they are so busy
• “But the seed planted on good ground is the person who hears & understands the
word. This type produces crops. They produce 100, 60, or 30 times as much as was
planted.
• What kind of heart? Receptive & Enthusiastic
• What is the problem? Varying degrees of cooperation with God lead to
varying degrees of fruitbearing
