Class Description:Keyboarding is designed to develop in the student correct technique, functional speed and accuracy in the keyboard manipulation, and in simple problem solving. Students will study the keyboard, proofreading for accuracy and meaning, vertical and horizontal placement, care of the computer, keying numbers, letters, reports, personal-business and business letters, envelopes, tables, memos, and some desktop publishing.  Students in the 7th grade will receive a ½ unit  for high school credit. ,[object Object]

  • 10. Provide a wide variety of learning strategies using the content areas: reading, writing, math, science and social studies.
  • 11. Increase reading and writing skills by using the computer.Rules & Procedures Students will follow the rules and procedures in the Johnson Middle School handbook. Classroom procedures are as follows: 1) Be on time for class, 2) Be prepared with all materials to work 3) Leave drama outside the classroom 4) Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat, 4) Respect the teacher while giving instructions. 5) Please respect all of JMS Computer Lab equipment. 6) Respect other students work, and 7) Refrain from eating, drinking, and chewing gum. Note: If candy wrappers are found around your workstation, you will be responsible. 8) If a visitor enters the room or if the teacher receives a phone call from the office, you should remain on task and quiet. 9) You are to leave the room for emergencies only. 10) We do not cheat, copy other peoples work, or copy materials from the Internet unless you cite the sources. Otherwise, it is called plagiarism. 1. Please adhere to the Technology Pledge. 2. At no times, music videos are allowed. 3. Changing the computer settings is not allowed. 4. Printing from the Internet is only allowed with teachers’ permission. 5. Enrichment activities are earned. 6. The bell does not dismiss you, the teacher does. Consequences Students who consistently do not follow the rules, actions will result to the following: 1. Verbal Warning 2. Parent Phone Call 3. Parent Letter 4. Parent Conference 5. Referrals may begin. A 100-93 Excellent B 92-85 Above Average C 84-77 Average D 76-70 Below Average F Below 70 Failing Grading Criteria is set for Johnson Middle School Related Arts as follows: 50% Tests/Performance 30% Quizzes/Classwork 10% Homework 10% Literacy Homework Homework is graded upon a written assignment or a class assignment incomplete. Tests/Assessments Students will have quizzes, some written tests, production/performance tests, Timed Writings (See Below) and a Nines Weeks Exam. Make-ups Can be made on designate Mondays (Please scheduled to make sure I am available) or during class time if schedule allows. Assignments are due (5) days after you return to school. Identify major causes of work-related accidents in offices. 2.Describe the threat of viruses to a computer network, methods of avoiding attacks, and options in dealing with virus attacks. 3.Identify potential abuse and unethical uses of computers and networks. 4.Explain the consequences of illegal and unethical uses of information technologies, e.g., piracy; illegal downloading; copyright violations; licensing infringement; and inappropriate uses of software, hardware, and mobile devices. 5.Discuss negative social issues related to use of the Internet. 6.Differentiate between freeware, shareware, and public domain software copyrights. Identify Internet etiquette. Discuss computer crimes, terms of use, and legal issues such as copyright laws, fair use laws, and ethics pertaining to scanned and downloaded clip art images, photographs, documents, video, recorded sounds and music, trademarks, and other elements for use in Web publications. Describe ethical practices in business professions. Discuss the necessity of safeguarding the confidentiality of business-related information. EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS Identify positive work attitudes, e.g., punctuality, time management, and organization. Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, e.g., communication, respect, and teamwork. STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS Explain how related student organizations are integral parts of career and technology education courses. Explain the goals and objectives of related student organizations. List opportunities available to students through participation in related student organization conferences and other activities. Explain how participation in career and technology education student organizations can promote lifelong responsibility for community service and professional development. KEYBOARDING MASTERY: Use correct fingering and proper touch techniques to key alphanumeric information. Use correct fingering and proper touch techniques to key numeric information on a ten-key pad. Demonstrate speed at a minimum rate of 30 wpm with a maximum of three errors on a three-minute timed writing. Use equipment and/or software capabilities to correct errors. Use correct procedures for saving and retrieving information. Demonstrate proper use of hardware and software. LANGUAGE SKILLS Follow oral and written instructions. Identify and use basic keyboarding and computer terminology. Apply formal language rules for punctuation, grammar, spelling, number expression, word division, and capitalization. Compose at the keyboard. Edit copy using proofreaders’ marks. DOCUMENT FORMATTING: Use special features, such as bold, underline, italics, bullets, and numbering to enhance a document. Format, key, and edit personal business letters using block style. Format, key, and edit basic reports. Format, key, and edit simple tables. INTRO TO COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS SAFETYThe student will be able to: Identify good work attitudes that affect safety on the job. Identify major causes of work-related accidents in offices. Demonstrate knowledge of an emergency plan. Describe the threat of viruses to a computer network, methods of avoiding attacks, and options in dealing with a virus attack. Identify potential abuse and unethical uses of computers and networks. B. COMPUTER FUNDAMENTALSThe student will be able to: 1. Define basic computer terminology (RAM, ROM, hardware, software, processors, 2. Demonstrate knowledge of computer processing, storing, and retrieving data (file, edit, and save) 3. Identify advantages and disadvantages of various processing, storage, retrieval, and transmission technologies. C. APPLICATION SOFTWAREThe student will be able to: 1. Format, key, and edit business letters, memoranda, and multipage reports. 2. Create spreadsheets by entering data and setting up formulas, analyzing data, and creating graphs and charts to visually represent data. 3. Create databases by defining fields and entering data, sorting, and producing reports in various forms. 4. Use publishing software, graphics programs, and scanners to produce page layouts. 5. Integrate databases, graphics, and spreadsheets into word-processed documents. D. TELECOMMUNICATIONS The student will be able to: 1. Identify components of bookmarks, browsers, and commonly used search engines. Identify and use search strategies to retrieve electronic information. Use electronic encyclopedias, almanacs, indexes, and catalogs to retrieve and select relevant information. Use local and wide-area networks and modem-delivered services to access and retrieve information from electronic databases. Use databases to perform search. Develop hypermedia home page documents.
