11. Viagra and its predecesors
• Not much affect on women
• Designed to dilate blood vessels of the
penis
• Work ~ 60 minutes after swallowing
• ONLY work in presence of sexual
stimulation
• May cause prolonged erection (4-6 hours)
• Interact (BADLY) with some heart
medication
12. Impaired Sexuality with Drugs
• Anticholinergic- GI diseases that decrease
muscle spasms (all smooth muscle)
• Antiadrenergic- for hypertension (men)
problems with ejaculation and muscle
contraction
• Oral contraceptives (but increased in other
women)
• Effect increases with age
13. The Quandry of Sex Education
• Many believe that formal courses will give a sense
of “permissiveness”
• Instructors are not trained
• Focus on reproductive anatomy but no sense of
decision, choice or responsibility (this is where
YOUR GENERATION NEEDS A LOUD VOICE
FOR YOUR FUTURE CHILDREN)
• Less focus on preventing STD, pregnancy and
psychological effects (especially in women!)
14. Abstinence
• More than half of teenagers are virgins
until they are at least 17 years of age.
• By the time they reach the age of 20,
20 percent of boys and 24 percent of
girls have not had sexual intercourse.
• The largest study of adult sexual
behavior found that 6.9 percent of men
and 21 percent of women aged 18 to
59 had their first intercourse on their
wedding night.
