English Language Learners
Working with English Language Learners in the classroom
Are you a student teacher this semester? How will you manage
instructional practices for your English learners? What is the best way
to teach students who are learning difficult subject matter at the same
time that they are learning a new language? English learners struggle
daily to blend language and content knowledge. SIOP (Sheltered
Instructional Observation Protocol) is considered to be the best
approach to facilitate high quality instruction for English learners. In this
module you will view classroom teachers applying SIOP instructional
principles. Session participants will work with peers to create and
present a practical SIOP lesson.

September 19th, 26th, and October 3rd

4:30 until 6:00 pm
Location: Poe 512

  • 5. English Language Learners Working with English Language Learners in the classroom Are you a student teacher this semester? How will you manage instructional practices for your English learners? What is the best way to teach students who are learning difficult subject matter at the same time that they are learning a new language? English learners struggle daily to blend language and content knowledge. SIOP (Sheltered Instructional Observation Protocol) is considered to be the best approach to facilitate high quality instruction for English learners. In this module you will view classroom teachers applying SIOP instructional principles. Session participants will work with peers to create and present a practical SIOP lesson. Dates: September 19th, 26th, and October 3rd Time: 4:30 until 6:00 pm Location: Poe 512 Instructor: Toby Brody, Director of English as a Second Language (ESL) and Coordinator of the ESL Licensure Program
