This document discusses the development of affordable, home-made laparoscopic simulators for surgical training. It notes that commercially available simulators are expensive and not available for individual practice at home. As an alternative, it proposes that home-made trainer boxes can be inexpensive yet equally effective for improving laparoscopic skills. It then presents several studies demonstrating the effectiveness of home-made simulators and provides examples of designs, including one with a webcam for under £70. The conclusion is that home-made trainers allow trainees to develop skills at low cost with DIY skills.
