- PowerPoint is not a script. People are supposed to listen to you speak and not just read from the screen. PowerPoint is meant to be a visual aid; not a way out of genuine public speaking.
- If a presentation has too much text it becomes boring and somewhat overwhelming. It is important to not have too many bullet points or text. It is critical to summarize and be precise with what is put in the PowerPoint.
- There is such thing as over-animation. Limit the use of builds and transition effects to not overwhelm the audience. As well, it becomes tedious and boring as the presentation goes on.
- When using images in a PowerPoint avoid using clipart. These graphics are cheesy and overused. By using a beautiful, and high quality photo the audience is captivated by your presentation. It is then unique and actually fun to watch.
- Don’t use the same boring templates that everyone else uses. It is important to keep a common theme throughout the presentation. However, it is important to step outside the box and be creative with the theme.
- With graphs and visual aids, information must be limited. It is important to not overload the audience with data and statistics. If too much information is presented the main points of the presentation may become unclear. As well, when using graphs and charts make sure that you are using the right type of visual aid to display the data clearly.
- In a PowerPoint it is important to use color correctly. Color’s evoke emotions out of the audience. Make sure that the tone of presentation matches the color scheme used in the PowerPoint. As well, colors must be used accordingly with the surrounding atmosphere. If the room is dark and has a large amount of seating, the font should be clear and distinct. The colors should not bleed together or be unclear from any viewpoint.
- Pick fonts that are clear and legible. Sans-serif fonts are the best to use in a PowerPoint presentation because they are defined and clean cut. It is necessary that the font can be read by everyone in the audience. As well, stick with only two complementary fonts throughout the presentation.
- A different way to utilize the many benefits of PowerPoint is to incorporate audio or visual clips. These will help captivate the audience. It is a different and helpful way of learning. The usage will make the presentation entertaining and visually stimulating. It is a way to bring variety and fun into a PowerPoint.
- Make sure that your presentation flows. Look at the all the slides overall and choose the best order for the presentation. This will create a logical and entertaining PowerPoint. The audience will not become overwhelmed by too much data or text at the same time.
