guidelines for scheduling and collaborative
planning. A list of guidelines that gives specific
instruction on how to implement flexible
scheduling and collaborative planning are
located in the media handbook. That list should
be written into a board policy.
Circulation In the current policy there is only a quick, broad
7/27/04 mention of how the BOE appointed media
committee should create procedures for
circulation. A separate, detailed policy should be
added that lists specific guidelines and rules to
govern all school media circulation. An example

Media Specialist Roles There is no policy that specifically defines the
and Responsibilities 7/27/04 5/07 media specialist role and responsibilities. This
subject is periodically covered in several
different procedures. The media handbook,
however, is much more detailed. It clearly lists
the specific roles and responsibilities of this
position. I suggest that the list in the media
handbook be transferred into a board adopted
policy. An example is

Selection The policy states the county appointed media
7/27/09 5/07 committee will create procedures for the
selection process locally. At the moment the
policy is uninformative. The county should add
general guidelines to the policy that outline the
selection process that each media
center/specialist should follow. A detailed

Overall I found that the board policies themselves are not as informative as they should be in regards to the media
center. However, the procedures and media center handbook are much more detailed and developed in each category.
It seems that the district media committee that is mentioned in many of the policies develops the handbook, and I would
suggest that this document be looked over by the BOE and adopted as the policies themselves.
