   Fit plan for Pat practice CBA
   Warm-ups will be at the very beginning of
    class when the bell rings.
   8 minutes to write and share responses
   Reviews information and learning targets
    from previous days
   Introduces new material
   You will take a look at your eating habits.
   Rate your own habits to recommended
    nutrition intakes.
   Make nutrition goals based on the
    comparison.
   Occasionally there will be notes to copy from
    the avervision.
   They will never last an entire period, but are
    necessary to be able to be ready for the
    assessments.
   For 3 days we will watch this documentary
    style movie about the fast food industry.
   A worksheet will accompany the movie.
   An eye-opening experience about fast food!!!
   How much food should you really be eating???
   We will measure out actual servings of
    different foods to compare with our own
    actual servings.
   We read as a class, and answer review
    questions along the way.
   Helps to solidify the lesson about portion
    sizes.
   Practice for the CBA.
   You are baby sitting and need to feed a
    young child a healthy meal based on what we
    have learned.
   Taking a look at your own height and weight
   Comparing your own size to the BMI scale
   What does it all mean?
   What about muscle vs. fat weight???
   Taking a look at what’s in energy drinks.
   Are they good or bad for you?
   How many is too many?
   A look at the rumors and myths.
   Reviewing the FITT Principle
   Preparing you for what the actual CBA will
    look like.
   Time to combine fitness and nutrition.
   This is an already built Power Point that you
    and a partner will work on together using
    your own lap top.
   There are internet links to explore, questions
    to answer, and pages filled with information
    relating to the main nutrients.
   Auburn School District Power Standard 7th
    grade 1.2.
   “Students will be able to recognize the
    dimensions of health.” - “Can relate
    personal behaviors to the dimensions of
    health (eg., diet, sleep, recreation, exercise,
    nutrition, and hydration).”
   Your score will depend on how accurately you
    answer the questions from the worksheet at the
    end of the power point.
   Questions will include information from the
    power point such as: nutrient information,
    questions about water, exercise and fitness, and
    questions pertaining to the different links.
   How many calories are there per gram for
    each of the four nutrients?
   After reviewing the different cultural recipe
    links, which food did you find most
    interesting? Why?
   What fitness related link did you find most
    interesting? Why?
   Helps to prepare you for reading and
    understanding nutrition labels.
   Helps you understand the different nutrients.
     You will use this information for the rest of
    your life.
   Use when grocery shopping, cooking, dieting,
    preparing meals, staying fit.
   Will lead to higher quality of life.
   Taking a look at portion sizes and food labels
   Comparing your typical serving sizes with the
    actual serving size recommended by the
    nutrition label.

    grade 4.1.
   “Evaluates health and fitness information.”
    - “Analyzes health and fitness product
    information.”
   How well do you know the different nutrients
    found on a food label?
   A worksheet will contain question about
    calorie amounts, nutrient amounts, sodium
    totals, and comparing food labels.
   How many grams of fat are in 3 servings of
    chunk chicken breast???
   If I have 2 and a half servings of the
    tropicana juice, how many calories from
    sugar am I getting???
   If I have 2 servings of crunchy nut cereal,
    1and a half servings of chunk chicken breast,
    and 2 servings of tropicana juice, how many
    total calories will I consume???
   This assessment will help you become
    nutritious for life.
   You will be able to choose between foods
    that are healthier and ones that are not.
   This information will come in handy when
    grocery shopping, and cooking or preparing
    meals.
   Aim for a high quality life!
   Pat is going to tell you about his nutrition
    and fitness plan.
   Help Pat come up with a plan for his diet and
    fitness that will have a positive affect on his
    health.
   Use “chunk” writing style. Yes, this means
    you will be writing in paragraph form.

   English Language Arts (writing): Use words,
    phrases, and clauses to create cohesion and
    clarify the relationships among claims,
    counterclaims, reasons, and evidence. (W.8.1c)
   Using correct “chunk” writing form
   Give ideas and information to help Pat with
    his fitness side of being healthy.
   Give information and ideas that helps Pat
    with his nutrition side of being healthy.
   Give ideas on what Pat can cut out of his
    current nutrition and exercise plan to help
    him be healthier.
   Your friend John wants to lose some weight and get into
    better shape. He asks for your help to give him advice
    with exercise and eating habits. John weighs 275 pounds,
    and his only exercise consists of walking about 15 minutes
    from school to home each day. On any given day he
    usually eats about half of a pizza, a bag of hot cheetos,
    about 2 liters of soda, and snacks on things like chips and
    cookies.
   Write a paragraph in “chunk” writing form explaining to
    John what he can do to change his existing exercise plan
    to help his overall goal.

    overall goal.
   By successfully completing this assessment
    you will now have the ability to help yourself
    or others live a healthy life style.
   You will have knowledge to help both sides
    of a physically healthy self. (physical activity
    needs, and nutrition needs)
 Time  to put together everything that we have
  learned.
 Create a 2 day food plan for everything you eat.
  (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks, etc)
 Based on eating healthy using information from
  notes, USDA food guide pyramid, portion size
  information, nutrient information, and personal
  fitness levels.

    1.1.
    “Students will understand the stages of growth and
    development.” - “Understands connections
    between health decisions and their impact on
    major body systems.”
   Auburn School District Power Standard 7th grade
    1.2.
    “Students will be able to recognize the dimensions
    of health.” - “Can relate personal behaviors to
    the dimensions of health (eg., diet, sleep,
    recreation, exercise, nutrition, and hydration).”
   Include a minimum of 3 square meals and
    drinks.
   Include recommended serving amounts from
    USDA food guide pyramid food groups.
   Include reason for choosing different foods
    by listing consumed nutrients, and vitamins
    or minerals.
   Include correct amount of water/fluids.
   By constructing this food plan you will gain
    the knowledge necessary to feed yourself
    and family members nutritiously.
   By eating nutritiously you will be able to
    reach the goal of living a “high-quality” life.

  • 5. You will take a look at your eating habits.  Rate your own habits to recommended nutrition intakes.  Make nutrition goals based on the comparison.
  • 6. Occasionally there will be notes to copy from the avervision.  They will never last an entire period, but are necessary to be able to be ready for the assessments.
  • 7. For 3 days we will watch this documentary style movie about the fast food industry.  A worksheet will accompany the movie.  An eye-opening experience about fast food!!!
  • 8. How much food should you really be eating???  We will measure out actual servings of different foods to compare with our own actual servings.
  • 9. We read as a class, and answer review questions along the way.  Helps to solidify the lesson about portion sizes.
  • 10. Practice for the CBA.  You are baby sitting and need to feed a young child a healthy meal based on what we have learned.
  • 11. Taking a look at your own height and weight  Comparing your own size to the BMI scale  What does it all mean?  What about muscle vs. fat weight???
  • 12. Taking a look at what’s in energy drinks.  Are they good or bad for you?  How many is too many?  A look at the rumors and myths.
  • 13. Reviewing the FITT Principle  Preparing you for what the actual CBA will look like.  Time to combine fitness and nutrition.
  • 14. This is an already built Power Point that you and a partner will work on together using your own lap top.  There are internet links to explore, questions to answer, and pages filled with information relating to the main nutrients.

John weighs 275 pounds, and his only exercise consists of walking about 15 minutes from school to home each day.
