Slave Trade Auction

By: Michael Thompson, Tyler Williams, Wyneke
        Lee, and Albert Insixiengmay
Types

There were 2 main types of slave auctions:

People that sold to the highest bidder, and

Grab-and-Go auctions
Highest Bidder

Slaves would be brought from the pen, raised on a
platform (so the buyers could see them).

When the slave ship docked, the slaves would be taken
off the ship and placed in a pen. Then, they covered
their skin in grease (or tar) to make them look more
healthy

Sometimes they would be branded with a hot iron to
identify them as slaves
Grab-and-Go

A trader gave a ticket to each slave they had bought.

When they heard a drum roll, the door to the slave
pen would open, and buyers would rush in, and grab
the salve(s) that they wanted

If buyers wanted to buy a slave on the day of the
auction, they would agree to pay the trader to an
agreed amount of money
