Xcel Energy Center:
A Tribute to the Home of Wild Hockey
Xcel Energy Center has been the home of the
Minnesota Wild for the last ten years. Xcel Energy Center has seen many
special hockey moments since 2000 including the first game and Wild win
against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Gaborik’s five goal night against the
Rangers and that exciting night in April 2008 when the Wild secured the
division title.
In honor of our 10th
Anniversary Season, we will take an in-depth look at
Xcel Energy Center and what makes our location unique to the State of Hockey. The Xcel Energy Puck Wall has been a great
addition to the décor and began in 2000 when the arena was built. Fans are able to leave a memorial to special friends,
memories and great Wild experiences by Section 124. For only $100, fans receive a puck for the wall and a replica puck as a
prized keepsake after a fun filled Wild experience, while benefiting Heat Share, a low-income energy assistance program
through the Salvation Army.

donated to Minnesota Hockey and the Minnesota Wild
Foundation. In addition, the Prairie Island Indian

2. History of Hockey:
Carl “Cully” Dahlstrom
Carl “Cully” Dahlstrom from Minneapolis
became the first American to score
twenty goals in an NHL season. When
he accomplished this feat in 1943-44
with the Chicago Blackhawks, his stats
included two hat tricks along with 22
assists giving the Minneapolis native a
career year with 44 points. Carl
launched his professional hockey career
with the Central Hockey League (CHL)
Minneapolis Millers in 1931-32. He
moved to the cross-town St. Paul Saints a
few years later and made his major
league debut with Chicago in 1937.
Cully won the Calder Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year as the
Hawks went on to win the Stanley Cup. He scored the key goal in the
clinching game of the best of five finals against Toronto to bring Lord
Stanley’s mug to the Windy City for the second time in five years.
The Flour City native retired after the 1944-45 season. Dahlstrom
was among the first twenty-five enshrines to the United States
Hockey Hall of Fame when the American ice shrine opened on June
21, 1973.
As a tribute to Cully, there will be a display located in the Hockey
Lodge during the 2010-2011 season. Included in his display will be a
reproduced Chicago Blackhawk’s jersey, a trophy from winning the
Hawk’s most popular player award in ’44-’45 and several photos.
Head over to the Hockey Lodge to check it out!!
