The latitude
• The distance that the
area is situated from
the Equator.
The proximity or distance of the sea
• Areas close to the sea:
milder temperatures and
more rain than inland.
• Areas far from the sea: hot
summers, cold winters and
little rain.

The altitude and relief
• The temperature
decreases with altitude
• The relief: modifies the
temperature and
rainfall. Peripheral
range isolate inlands
from the influence of
the sea.
Large part of Spain is in the
temperate zone.
There are five climatic zones:

Temperate area

Mountain
Mediterranean
Subtropical
Continental
2. VEGETATION
Depends on climatic factors and orientation.
The shady side: faces north . It
receives less sunlight, is more
humid, and has more vegetation.
The sunny side: faces south. It
receives more sunlight, is
drier, and has less vegetation.
