1. No exams or extended school year for Sudbury high school
students
The Rainbow District School Board in Sudbury has released its revised school year calendar for
secondary high school students who are now back in class.
Teachers had been on strike for about a month, but this week, the Ontario Labour Relations Board
deemed the strike action illegal. Students and teachers went back to class yesterday.
In a statement, the board said all students are required to return to class in order to obtain their
credits and graduate. It added "learning will be prioritized and maximized" to enable students to
complete the school year. No extension to the school day or year will be done.
2. Student will also not have to write formal exams at the end of the year, as they will be "evaluated on
their achievement of overall curriculum expectations."
Days that were scheduled for exams and professional activity days will now be instructional days.
Grade 9 students will not have to take EQAO testing.
The last day for school for secondary students will be June 25.
