- Well who here is better placed than I to talk about dragons? Ignore my Australian accent for one moment. My son’s name is Dylan, my family name is Morgan and my mum was born in Wrexham. As you might now realise, the word‘Dragon’conjures up images of red dragons on green and white backgrounds. And since I also played Dungeons and Dragons religiously as a teenager, 7,000 Experience Points and the +5 Double-handed sword of Thun, also springs to mind.Oh, and images like this also spring to mind

Would I find a description that included the emotional attachment – that ‘holiday’ was a good word, and that ‘over time’ was bad? Clearly I would not. And yet, en masse, at TEDx Hult, you have all decided that ‘holiday’ is indeed a good word. So why is that?This is because words, many but not all, have emotional attachments. So what? What has this got to do with ‘Unveiling the Dragon’?

- A holiday!Or at least the same emotional correlation. This is a friendly, happy, regal creature, which might even be associated with ‘he xie’ – or harmony! In the world of NeuroLinguisting Programming, this is referred to as an ‘internal representation’ – and one that is influenced, in this case, heavily by culture. Now you can see how the same majestic animal, is both loved and feared, depending on which side of the Pacific you were born. And when China proudly boasts that the Dragon represents the spirit of the Chinese people, few Westerners are picturing Puff. They see a threat! An ‘overtime’. (Change Puff the Magic Dragon drinking tea and then armed with a machine gun, tanks and communist propaganda).So, it is my intention, in the remaining 12 minutes, to Unveil the Dragon, and to show that while we, East and West, started with some serious miscommunication, we can come to the conclusion that China’s rise, and the impact that it is making on technology, society and politics should not be feared. And here is why. Because we’ve lived through worse.That’s right.2012, monumental social, technological and political change. Don’t be ridiculous. 2012, has nothing on 1952.
