Google’s I/O conference had tons of announcements, from Android 2.2 ‘Froyo’ to mobile Flash
support. But the biggest may be Google TV. The company is now aiming to conquer the living room.
Google has partnered with many of the top technology manufacturers- Sony, Adobe, Intel, Best Buy,
Dish, and Logitech.
Users will be able to easily search for video and music content, just like Google’s online search.
Searching for a specific film, for example, will bring up the movie for streaming from any source that
2. offers it, either from television listings or online providers like Amazon and Netflix, as well as trailers,
IMDB info, related YouTube videos, etc. If it’s on TV, you can tell your DVR to record it. Dish
Network support will be integrated as well.
Google TV is built on Android, supports Flash, features Chrome as a built-in browser, and will feature
Android Marketplace support. Intel’s Atom processor with Flash 10.1 GPU decoding will help power
the device.
Google TV will be available in the fall either integrated into upcoming Sony HDTVs and Blu-ray
players, or sold as a set-top box made by Logitech. Logitech is also making Bluetooth keyboards and
remotes for the device.
