Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by
failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because
they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

                           Employee of the Month
                                      September
                                    LaShonda Reed
She loves to be busy with multiple tasks and learn new things at the same time. She
volunteered to be on the Safety Committee and a couple of months after that she
also wanted to join the Recognition Committee. When presented with the option to
present the Recognition Slides in a Wednesday meeting, she stepped forward and did
                                    an outstanding job
She is a Qualified Trainer to train the group on the “client” work instructions and
continues to volunteer to train the staff on any additional changes/additions that
                                        may occur.
She keeps a positive attitude and assists the team whenever they have a question.
LaShonda has excelled since joining our team. She came to the group shy and
uncertain but immediately stepped up to the challenge and has proven to be a true
asset and a true gift to our team.

                                         August
                                    Patricia Drayton
“She has been a very valuable member of our team for the past several months.
She has been here to step in and step up no matter where this associate has been
needed. When a group lost a member, it has been Pat who has moved in and took
up the slack whether it was short term or a longer period of time. Her versatility and
knowledge of the clients often goes under the radar, but is never unappreciated by
                                     the team.”

                  Work Place Fashion and Creativity-
Dress your age! Fall fashion for 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s
“Glamour” magazine on the latest trends and styles for every
                            age group

                             Fall fashion in your 20s…
One of the biggest issues 20-year-olds have is letting go of the collegiate look and
embracing an office-appropriate wardrobe. Flip-flops, logo sweatshirts and faded
denim should be confined to your weekend wardrobe, if at all. This is the time in
your life you want to climb the corporate ladder and be taken seriously, but you still
want to have fun doing it.

Our past rules about mixing colors no longer apply. Black, navy, gray and brown can
all be worn together, as can stripes and patterns. The trick to mixing your patterns is
to stay in the same color family. A wide or narrow belt over your cardigan looks
sweet and is a great way to define your waist.
Fall fashion in your 30s…
In your 30s, your wardrobe needs to work 24/7 — you should be able to go to the
office and look fab and then go out at night in the exact same thing. The new trend
is to have your look take you from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — no accessory changes
                                      necessary.

This fall, a shapely floral dress looks good on everyone and goes just about
everywhere. To give the dress a little extra charm, add vintage-y accessories.

                              Fall fashion in your 40s…
The old rule of keeping hemlines below the knee once you hit 40 has been put to
shame. Clearly, you don't want to go too mini (if it feels inappropriate, it probably
is), but there's nothing that looks more modern than a great coatdress in a fancy
fabric paired with an opaque black tight.

The new shoe style this fall is an oxford-inspired heel — look for a fall fabric like
tweed, or patent leather. The delicate balance of masculine and feminine touches
                              also looks great with suits.

                                Fall fashion in your 50s…
If you’re in your 50s, this is the season to invest in a coat that’s anything but boring.
A bright red trench is the perfect attention-grabber. A wide-leg jean makes this ’70s-
inspired look totally 2007, and it would be just as chic on a 20-year-old as it is on a
                                     woman in her 50s.

PCM-Cough Etiquette
                          Provided by UPSers.com
Serious respiratory illnesses like influenza (flu) are spread by
coughing, sneezing, and unclean hands. Recent studies show
only 32 percent of adults wash their hands after coughing or
                            sneezing.*
This PCM is part of our ongoing communications plan to update you on UPS’s
pandemic preparedness activities, as well as situation updates related to the Avian
Flu. Since the last PCM on this topic, the Avian Flu situation in most locations
throughout the world remains the same: no or very limited human-to-human
transmission. However, several countries in the Asia Pacific Region are reporting an
increase in the number of cases in birds and human beings. As of January 16,
Indonesia and Thailand together have accounted for 104 human cases with 78
                                        deaths.
At UPS, we are continuing a number of preparedness activities, including
communicating virus prevention measures you can take. Serious respiratory illnesses
like influenza (flu) are spread by coughing, sneezing, and unclean hands. Recent
studies show only 32 percent of adults wash their hands after coughing or sneezing.*
To help control the spread of germs:
                                   Key Messages
•Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
•If you don't have a tissue, using your upper sleeve is better than coughing or
                                sneezing into your hands.
•Put your used tissue in a hands-free waste basket, if available.
•After coughing or sneezing, avoid touching your eyes, ears, mouth, and nose.
•Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing by washing your hands with soap
and warm water. If water and soap are not available, use an alcohol-based hand
                                      sanitizer.
                                     Conclusion
Many people are taught to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. When you
cough or sneeze into your hand, you are putting germs on your hands, which can
spread to everything you touch, including keyboards, door knobs, or another
person’s hand. Anyone who touches these surfaces can become sick. In addition,
stickers highlighting hand hygiene will be affixed to mirrors in restroom facilities.
Simple actions, like covering your mouth and nose, and cleaning your hands often,
can control germs and prevent illnesses.

                                  ATTITUDE
                             By: Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past,
than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than
what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance,
giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will
embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that
people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we
can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced
that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Sweet Potato Recipe
             Pudding
                     of the Month
Ingredients:
1-2 large cans evaporated milk
4-5 cups freshly grated, peeled, raw sweet potatoes
4 large eggs
2 sticks butter or margarine, melted
1-2 whole nutmegs, freshly grated
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1-2 cups granulated sugar
3 Tablespoons lemon extract
2 Tablespoons vanilla extract
1/2 cups plain flour

Instructions:
As the potatoes are grated, stir them into the milk which has been poured
into a large mixing bowl. (This prevents darkening of the potatoes.) Mix in
by the cupfuls to make track-keeping easier. Sift in the flour and mix well.
Thoroughly whisk in the remaining ingredients and pour into greased, shallow,
pan or oven-proof dish. Bake until edges are dark and center of pudding is set.
Check for doneness by digging in slightly with a spoon. If not done, smooth
over and continue cooking and checking occasionally. Serve hot, warm or cold.

Comments: Smells good enough to eat even before it is put in the oven and
it makes the kitchen smell heavenly as it bakes! Well worth ignoring
calories for this rich, unforgettable, down-home treat you will never forget!

August September Newsletter

  • 1. A August/September Newsletter Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt Employee of the Month September LaShonda Reed She loves to be busy with multiple tasks and learn new things at the same time. She volunteered to be on the Safety Committee and a couple of months after that she also wanted to join the Recognition Committee. When presented with the option to present the Recognition Slides in a Wednesday meeting, she stepped forward and did an outstanding job She is a Qualified Trainer to train the group on the “client” work instructions and continues to volunteer to train the staff on any additional changes/additions that may occur. She keeps a positive attitude and assists the team whenever they have a question. LaShonda has excelled since joining our team. She came to the group shy and uncertain but immediately stepped up to the challenge and has proven to be a true asset and a true gift to our team. August Patricia Drayton “She has been a very valuable member of our team for the past several months. She has been here to step in and step up no matter where this associate has been needed. When a group lost a member, it has been Pat who has moved in and took up the slack whether it was short term or a longer period of time. Her versatility and knowledge of the clients often goes under the radar, but is never unappreciated by the team.”

D Clean and check fireplaces and chimneys regularly. Work Place Fashion and Creativity- Dress your age! Fall fashion for 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s “Glamour” magazine on the latest trends and styles for every age group Fall fashion in your 20s… One of the biggest issues 20-year-olds have is letting go of the collegiate look and embracing an office-appropriate wardrobe. Flip-flops, logo sweatshirts and faded denim should be confined to your weekend wardrobe, if at all. This is the time in your life you want to climb the corporate ladder and be taken seriously, but you still want to have fun doing it. Our past rules about mixing colors no longer apply. Black, navy, gray and brown can all be worn together, as can stripes and patterns. The trick to mixing your patterns is to stay in the same color family. A wide or narrow belt over your cardigan looks sweet and is a great way to define your waist.
  • 3. Fall fashion in your 30s… In your 30s, your wardrobe needs to work 24/7 — you should be able to go to the office and look fab and then go out at night in the exact same thing. The new trend is to have your look take you from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — no accessory changes necessary. This fall, a shapely floral dress looks good on everyone and goes just about everywhere. To give the dress a little extra charm, add vintage-y accessories. Fall fashion in your 40s… The old rule of keeping hemlines below the knee once you hit 40 has been put to shame. Clearly, you don't want to go too mini (if it feels inappropriate, it probably is), but there's nothing that looks more modern than a great coatdress in a fancy fabric paired with an opaque black tight. The new shoe style this fall is an oxford-inspired heel — look for a fall fabric like tweed, or patent leather. The delicate balance of masculine and feminine touches also looks great with suits. Fall fashion in your 50s… If you’re in your 50s, this is the season to invest in a coat that’s anything but boring. A bright red trench is the perfect attention-grabber. A wide-leg jean makes this ’70s- inspired look totally 2007, and it would be just as chic on a 20-year-old as it is on a woman in her 50s.

  • 5. PCM-Cough Etiquette Provided by UPSers.com Serious respiratory illnesses like influenza (flu) are spread by coughing, sneezing, and unclean hands. Recent studies show only 32 percent of adults wash their hands after coughing or sneezing.* This PCM is part of our ongoing communications plan to update you on UPS’s pandemic preparedness activities, as well as situation updates related to the Avian Flu. Since the last PCM on this topic, the Avian Flu situation in most locations throughout the world remains the same: no or very limited human-to-human transmission. However, several countries in the Asia Pacific Region are reporting an increase in the number of cases in birds and human beings. As of January 16, Indonesia and Thailand together have accounted for 104 human cases with 78 deaths. At UPS, we are continuing a number of preparedness activities, including communicating virus prevention measures you can take. Serious respiratory illnesses like influenza (flu) are spread by coughing, sneezing, and unclean hands. Recent studies show only 32 percent of adults wash their hands after coughing or sneezing.* To help control the spread of germs: Key Messages •Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. •If you don't have a tissue, using your upper sleeve is better than coughing or sneezing into your hands. •Put your used tissue in a hands-free waste basket, if available. •After coughing or sneezing, avoid touching your eyes, ears, mouth, and nose. •Clean your hands after coughing or sneezing by washing your hands with soap and warm water. If water and soap are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Conclusion Many people are taught to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. When you cough or sneeze into your hand, you are putting germs on your hands, which can spread to everything you touch, including keyboards, door knobs, or another person’s hand. Anyone who touches these surfaces can become sick. In addition, stickers highlighting hand hygiene will be affixed to mirrors in restroom facilities.
  • 6. Simple actions, like covering your mouth and nose, and cleaning your hands often, can control germs and prevent illnesses. Minutes with Mitch This is one of Mitch’s favorite authors and quotes ATTITUDE By: Charles Swindoll The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes. Birthdays September

  • 9. RECIPE OF THE MONTH Sweet Potato Recipe Pudding of the Month Ingredients: 1-2 large cans evaporated milk 4-5 cups freshly grated, peeled, raw sweet potatoes 4 large eggs 2 sticks butter or margarine, melted 1-2 whole nutmegs, freshly grated 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1-2 cups granulated sugar 3 Tablespoons lemon extract 2 Tablespoons vanilla extract 1/2 cups plain flour Instructions: As the potatoes are grated, stir them into the milk which has been poured into a large mixing bowl. (This prevents darkening of the potatoes.) Mix in by the cupfuls to make track-keeping easier. Sift in the flour and mix well. Thoroughly whisk in the remaining ingredients and pour into greased, shallow, pan or oven-proof dish. Bake until edges are dark and center of pudding is set. Check for doneness by digging in slightly with a spoon. If not done, smooth over and continue cooking and checking occasionally. Serve hot, warm or cold. Comments: Smells good enough to eat even before it is put in the oven and it makes the kitchen smell heavenly as it bakes! Well worth ignoring calories for this rich, unforgettable, down-home treat you will never forget!
