INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
“Book Matters in Indonesia and India: Its Challenges and Potentials’’
Golkonda Hotel, Hyderabad. November 16th, 2013
About the Seminar
All people acknowledge that book is one of the resources for learning and teaching process. In
education, book is one major milestone of the educational process. It is believed that book is a gate for
science and civilization. It is assumed that a country can grow faster than others because its people are
fond of reading.
Indonesia needs to learn about book matters from India because India has leading International
Publishers, Distributors and Subscription Agents of books and research journals. As students in India
we find people here in India have dedicated to the global dissemination of information by disseminating
scholarly and professional materials throughout the world.
Regarding the book matters, the members of Indonesian Parliament of Commission X (Division of
National Education and Educational Policy), as reported in http://www.jurnalparlemen.com/ on July 14,
2013, are now discussing the Draft of law on Book matters in Indonesia. According to Mr. Agus
Herman, the Chairman of the Commission X, the draft has been studied and planned to release
immediately by the members of Indonesian Parliament of Commission X. He also stated that before
proposing the law, the members certainly have to collect data as accurate as possible; they can look
into which direction the design of the law, so that the result would be appropriate to apply to Indonesian
society. The draft will contain book matters accommodating the the roles of citizens, government,
publishers, and policy makers. There are five important pillars of the book matters, i.e. authors,
publishers, printing agents, distribution agents, and readers. If these pillars are working together
professionally, book matters can give enlightenment to the readers, the people of Indonesia.
The Indonesian Students Association (PPI) Hyderabad in India is one of the nation's young generations
that contribute to the future of Indonesian country to be better. As students, we believe that books will
make the whole nation be growing and having the competence to be a tremendous personal that will
make Indonesia successful in the International book maters by providing great ideas and inspirations.
