The scale of the modern-day oil and gas industry
in Scotland tells you something of its prominence
in the global energy arena.
More than 2,000 companies are in the supply
chain, covering every industry specialism and
niche service. Over 224,000 people are employed
across the spectrum of professions, disciplines
and support services. Scotland has a history of
more than 40 years of operations in one of the most
challenging offshore environments in the world.
But the statistics only tell a little of the story.
Behind the figures lies a backdrop of vision,
experience, innovation and pioneering work that
has made Scotland a global player.

Caledonian Industries are promoting Caltrex®
PEEK, manufactured by the Dynamic Cast Moulding
System (DCMS®).
DCMS® is a novel process requiring little or no
annealing in addition to shorter production cycles
and cost efficient, Near-net-Shape production.
Technically, one of the most significant advantages
is the reduction in moulding stresses using
Caledonian’s revolutionary PEEK DCMS®.
The production cycle is significantly shorter than
compression moulding and after ten years of
production, no porosity or inclusions have been
found in our parts.
A suite of CNC lathes complement the DCMS®
manufactured materials. These lathes are used for
the manufacture of precision engineering plastic
sealing products and components in materials such
as PEEK, PTFE etc. Typically these components are
used within down-hole tools and control systems.

Hydrason is a high-tech company with extensive
background in sonar and underwater systems. Our
wideband sonar (WBS) technology revolutionises
sensing underwater, opening up new survey and
operational capabilities offshore. The system has
been proven in MOD and Offshore E&P backed
trials. It is unique in being able not just to locate
underwater objects, but also to identify structure,
contents and composition.
A commercial version of the sonar for monitoring
hydrocarbon wax build-up and track the location of
pigging systems is under development. Hydrason’s
wideband sonar can be deployed externally (ROV
or AUV based) for low-cost screening or for
emergency response.
Our sensors can remotely determine the presence
of flooding, wax, a stuck pig or other blockage to
reduce remediation times and get lines back on
stream faster. Internally (on a pig) we can measure
wax deposition precisely to enable timely, planned
intervention and to ensure continued ‘piggability’.

Swagelining Limited is where polymer materials
engineering meets pipeline construction and

hydrocarbon sectors, Swagelining® is becoming
an increasingly important solution for protecting
pipelines and riser systems from internal

Polymer lining systems now work in ultra-deep
water risers and flowlines. The technology is
approaching benchmark status in water injection
systems where extended service life and very high
operating pressures demand absolute reliability.
Where previously only corrosion resistant alloys
were considered as suitable to prevent internal
corrosion in extreme environments, polymer lining
materials technology is fast becoming recognised
as a reliable and cost effective option.
Swagelining Limited can now offer polymer
