Mesophyll has several important functions, chiefly responsible for photosynthesis where most carbon dioxide is absorbed. It stores energy and nutrients from photosynthesis to be distributed throughout the plant. Mesophyll is crucial for plant life as without it, photosynthesis and life on Earth as we know it would not exist.
