"Nagpur Brahmins" or "FBIL” ( Facebook Brahmins International Ltd. ), some may take as a very
narrow minded thought but at the same time it is equally important to think out of the box because
such unification is need of the day and need of an hour. With this realization NB & FBIL came into
being on 4th April 2011 that is on Varshapratipada / Gudipadwa.
Though Facebook is used as a main medium to bring together people of our community, till date
many weekly as well as monthly meets have been held (at Nagpur), Picnic and events have been
arranged. As a result, members are now contributing hand in hand, with great zeal.
It is true, "Pen is mightier than the Sword" so lets make E-magazine a tool to embark with our
activities. But for this purpose to fulfill, every member needs to participate voluntarily and give his
share in the best possible way.
Talking specifically about E-magazine, the team is working for making every edition interesting in
the best feasible way and in a year or two, we will be starting with its hard copy too but again for
this, member’s response matter!
Well, we Brahmins are supposed to have high intellect & knowledge of the "Brahmanda", may be
this is the only reason why knowingly or unknowingly we are parted today or are on the verge of it.
If we have a closer look, dealing with outsiders (critics) is not something we need to do initially
because we already have people best at 'autodeconstruction' .But it’s high time now, we need to
get rid of the persisting evil thoughts. As stated earlier, let’s think differently and act practically.
Let’s know in detail what exactly our culture says.
With 'No Discrimination' as our theme and 'Humanism' as our religion, let’s make "Unite and Rule"
our motive.
"Together we stand, divided we fall"...So, again to enjoy the long last confluence of Brahmins and
feel the real power of Brahmnatva, lets come together and make a difference.
Jai Hind!

Friend
I had a sweet dream last night
My friends and I were traveling in a flight,
It was a scene of our picnic tour,
We were visiting the palace of Mysore

I woke and saw no one around
Like a lonely bird fallen on barren ground

I want to cry, but there aint anyone to wipe my tears,
I want to die, but there aint anyone who really cares
I want to show my scars, but there aint anyone with caring eyes,
I want to see the stars, but they also left making way for sunrise

I am not a freak; I was flying like any other birds,
I want to speak, but there aint anyone listening my words,

A fear rushed in my mind that morning
Is it the beginning of an end or end of the beginning?

This is not what I had planned,
Sitting alone on No Mans Land

So I thought of writing a suicide note
There was no point sailing in a sinking boat

As I begun to write about my glorious past
The clock started to move fast
I stopped as I felt absence of light
In the moment came the starry night,
It felt so good looking at the silver moon,
And thought of dying went so soon,

I looked at the piece of paper that I wrote,
I found that I am not alone like I thought,
I realized I can make this paper as my friend
Who will stand with me till the End
One who can listen what I want to say,
One who will be with me all night and day,
Now I have someone who never jealous of me,
I found my best friend, it was within me..

HE – THE HERO
To see happiness on her face,
his pains and sufferings he will never reveal

To meet her needs,
his hard work and efforts,he will always try to conceal

Her innocent acts and stupid gestures serve as medicine,
for all his illness to heal

If at all due to any reason sadness reflects on her face,
he will die for that reason to kill

He will fulfill all her useless demands and vague desires,
and will never show that for him it is a bitter pill

Let her be imperfect or let her be obstinate,
he will always be cool and never shrill
Her ugliness or wilderness will never affect his bill

For her, he will always be rich,
even though his account shows the balance as nil

To let his princess enjoy her life to the fullest,
he will never mind to make bread as his meal

She is an angel for him,
so much of love to feel
None other than a daughter’s dad is this hero and forever he will

A walk I will remember

It was a rainy evening. Usually calm blue sky today was covered with dark, black mean
clouds ornamented with occasional thunders. I was staring out of window lost in my thoughts.
“Why can’t I get anything right? Will I ever be happy? Why am I so lonely on the road to my broken
dreams?? Is it raining or those are just my tears I see? Even the nature is angry and depressed
like me.”
Suddenly he came behind me, closed my eyes and said, “why do u think u are lonely? I
am always there for you.” Perhaps it was his presence that dried my tears and I said, “No, I am all
alone, I am useless. you see those clouds covering the sky; even my mind is clouded with dark
thoughts. Nature and I both are depressed today. But unlike nature I can’t express myself.” I was
still thinking when he said, “Come, Let’s take a walk.” “A walk!!!! At this time???? No, I won’t.” I
refused. “Why not?? Are you scared?” he said smiling, “I promise it will be a walk you will
remember. Let’s go.”
We started walking in silence. I was angry and a bit scared and suddenly lightening
thundered, increasing my fear. As if reading my mind, he said, “Never get scared of nature, honey.
It’s the most beautiful thing in the world if you just observe.” “I see nothing beautiful about this
storm. It’s just mud and water everywhere. Look at that tree over there. It is lonely just like me.” I
said angrily. “Your eyes see what your mind thinks.” He said, “When I look at the tree I see a
warrior facing storm bravely still holding his head high in the sky. And it is not all alone. Because it
has his roots, branches, leaves with it and all those make it what it is. You can never be lonely
because you have yourself.” “You are right.” His silent smile said everything.
Rain had increased and it was darker but we kept walking. He was with me and I felt
better. But I was unhappy and sad. “Hey look there.” His voice broke into my thoughts. A small boy
was playing with his dog in mud and water unaware of surrounding. The dog shook his body and
water drops spread everywhere delighting the child. The boy hugged the dog and they started
playing again. I was watching them with envy when he whispered in my ear, “See they are so
blissfully happy. Enjoying themselves without worry. If you learn to enjoy those small moments and
lose yourself in joy you won’t have to worry about anything. Don’t forget those small moments
while running behind the bigger ones.”
We went ahead and I saw an old leaf fallen on the ground covered with mud. He picked it
up and said, “You might see just an old leaf fallen on the ground but I see here the satisfaction of
completing the work, of living a good life. When the time came it fell down to give place for a new
life to develop leaving its mark there. Don’t you think same thing happens in our life? We get older
and get replaced by new. We just have to make sure; we leave our mark in that work. Nature is
always trying to teach us something. It’s up to you to see and learn.”
The sky was clearing and so was my mind. Rain had decreased and we started going
back when he showed me a rose plant. The roses were destroyed and petals scattered
everywhere. A small bud was blooming trying to open its petals. The rain drop fell on it and it was
the most beautiful thing I had seen. This time he asked me, “what do you see?” I searched for an
answer and I found it. “I see one life destroyed in storm and still there is a new hope opening its
eyes starting a new life. The raindrop fallen on the leaf is as beautiful as the one falling in shell
turning to pearl. We don’t always get best of the circumstances. It’s up to us to make it the best.”
We had reached home. He smiled, ruffled my hair and turned to leave. “Please don’t go.”
I pleaded. “I will always be present around you, honey. I am wind. You may not feel me but I will
always be there. Whenever you feel sad just close your eyes and I will be there.” Wind was moving
away from me. The rain had stopped and sky was clear. Suddenly a flower flowing with wind fell in
my lap, promising his presence. He had kept his promise. It was a walk I will always
remember

Ideal Ganeshotsav
Ganpati Bappa Morya !!!

Every year, the month of August witnesses a lot of activity and
excitement in every nook and corner of the city. All this activity
and excitement is the indicator to the much awaited
festival Ganeshotsav!
This festival marks the presence of our favorite Ganpati Bappa in
our homes and hearts.
Mass celebration of Ganeshotsav was started by Lokmanya Tilak
in the year 1894. The motive behind this was to increase
communication between people, share thoughts of Swaraj and
thus fuel the freedom struggle with the common man’s
contribution. But, over the period of times, this mass celebration
has changed agendas. Every year, the city witnesses thousands
of Ganeshotsav celebrations from various areas. The trends of
these celebrations tend to change every year.

To make any Ganeshotsav ideal and productive of colony level, some of the following points
prove to be useful:
1. Ganesh Murti: The idol of the lord is the most important factor while conducting this festival.
Recently, idols in various shapes colors and sizes have come in the market. One must realize that
every god has a stereotypical look and feel that should not be tampered with. One may see
ganesh idols with unacceptable props and clothes. This is one front where we cannot and should
not experiment.
The murti should look serene and calm. Everyone comes to god with a host of wishes and
grievances. A calm looking sweet idol is always comforting and it amplifies the sacredness of the
place.

2. Vargani: The donation that comes to the organization conducting the festival must be handled
carefully. Money matters should be clean and transparent. Valid bills and receipts must be an
integral part of the calculation of expenses. One must not forget that this money belongs to the
society and hence one is answerable to people. All this money must be put to good use. Any foul
play in money matters will have serious implications. When one works for god, one must work with
a clean heart and character.

3. Programs: All the programs for the 10 days must be carefully planned taking into consideration
the various age groups in a society. The programs must be of interest to everyone.
One must not forget the vision the celebration was started with- Communication amongst masses.
All the programs must aim at active participation from every age group and gender. Children,
youth, mid-aged and senior citizens all are a part of the society and hence must be given equal
importance.
One must include programs that aim on health, sports, entertainment. One must address any
important health, social or political issue of public interest.

4. Ambience: One must not forget that when one works for spiritual events, the complexity of the
situation increases. It is very important to maintain the ambience and serenity of the place. We as
young people sometimes end up using foul words or unacceptable exclamations. It is essential to
avoid such mistakes at a place of spiritual importance.
All the musical programs that are conducted must take into consideration senior citizens, babies, ill
people and students while they play loud music. The celebration is for the society and not just for
the bunch of people organizing it.

If one takes into consideration all the above points, one can organize an ideal Ganeshotsav that
aims at the social development of our country’s children and youth and will definitely contribute in
making a healthy nation.

Varsha Rutu Charya (Life style in Rainy season) - An
Ayurvedic view
Varsha Rutu lakshan/symtomps:-

1. The wind blows from the vaaruna direction, so all the greenery starts growing.
2. The sky is covered with Indra neela-coloured clouds.
3. Due to heavy rains the steps of the ponds are immersed in the water. The river gets filled up
and appears like oceans. The ground is not properly visible as it is covered by rain water.
4. Sounds of clouds, peacock, frog etc are heard.
5. The earth appears as if it is decorated with indragopa (a kind of red or white colored insect),
vidyudhota (a flash or luster of lightning)
6. One can see green plants, grass, shileendhra (fungus) all over. One can also see the plenty of
kutaja flowers.
Changes in the body:-
Due to the effect of the aadana kala the body as well as the agni becomes weak. In varsha
rutu it gets affected further by rains, humidity, water, amla paka and the dushita jala(impure water).
So it is adviced to undergo purification procedures followed by vasti panchkarma. Due to this
weak agni 'vata'etc doshas gets vitiated very easily. Due to the effect of clouds, cold wind and
cold water plants are in their tarunavastha (young or tender) and have amla vipaka(sour vipaka). So
one should not do excess exercise.
Pathya:-
        Yusha(soup),samskruta yusha(processed soup) of purana shali(old rice), godhooma(wheat),
yava(barley), jangala mamsa can be taken to protect the weak agni. The food should be
natisnigdha(not very unctuous), nati rooksha(not very dry), nati ushna(not very hot) and should
have deepana qualities.
Madiraa(spirituous liquor), arishta, madhweeka can be taken mixing with honey in very little
quantity of water or drink boiled and cooled water from mahendra/Divyajala(rain water)/ kupa(well)/
sarasa(pond) or water mixed with honey.
The food and the drinks also should be mixed with honey.
One should adopt kleda hara(which depletes moisture) and vata hara food and drinks. One
should eat parishushka(dry), laghu(light), snigdha(unctuous), ushna(hot), amla, lavana tasting foods
to pacify the vata dosha on the days which have more rains and wind. To reduce the moisture and
to balance the doshas one should take kashaya, thikta, katu tasting foods and alpadrava(less
liquid) foods.
Praghrsha, udwartana (powder massage), snana, dhoomapana, gandhamala
dharana(wearing perfumed garlands) are to be practiced. Paste of sugandha dravyas(fragrant
drugs) are to be applied on the body.
Should live in a place which is protected by reptiles, moist, cold, wind, drizzle (sheekara),
mosquito, rats etc. The living room should be warm(should be kept warm with the help of fire). One
should avoid the exposure to humidity, so should live in a house which is built above the ground
level(vihayasi). The room should not be windy.
Should wear light and clean cloths after bath.Should wear cloths which have different designs
and should wear different types of garlands around the neck.Use thick blankets to cover the body
while sleeping.
Apply agaru lepa on the body while going out of the house.
Should travel in any veicle and not in open wind.
Apathya:-
Avoid nadijala(river water), udamantha(barley water), divaswapna(day sleep), atidrava
bhojana(liquid food intake), maithuna(sexual intercourse), exposure to cold or frost(tushara),

BIG NANO WORLD...
Nanotechnology is the branch of technology in which the manipulation of nano (tiny) materials at
atomic or molecular scale is done due to which its properties differ significantly from those larger
scale molecules. In the past the phenomena was already put to use in the field of sunscreen and
cosmetics. But now the new technology will be used enormously in the field of healthcare, filtration,
Infrastructure electronics, power etc.
The first time the idea of Nanotechnology was
introduced in 1959 when Richard Feynman, a physicist at,
Caltech gave a talk titled “There is plenty of room at the
bottom” and then Drexler’s vision of molecular
manufacturing evolved the field in 21st century.
In this new technology all the materials are measured in
scale of Nanometers (nm)and the particles of size
1-100nm are considered as Nano –materials 1nm=10 -9
(10 to the power minus 9) meters and 1000 nm=1
micrometer.
We have thousands of applications of these tiny
molecules:-
(Very few of them are given below)
PURIFICATION - Much water today is wasted because it is almost but not entirely pure. Simple,
reliable mechanical and electrical treatment technologies can recover brackish or tainted water for
agricultural or even domestic use. These technologies require only initial manufacturing and a
modest power supply. Physical filters with Nanometer-scale pores can remove 100% of bacteria,
viruses, and even prions. The ability to recycle water from any source for any use can save huge
amounts of water, and allow the use of presently unusable water resources. It can also eliminate
downstream pollution; a completely effective water filter also permits the generation of quite "dirty"
waste streams from agricultural and industrial operations.
This was the very basic working process of these Nano particles. Nano particles play very
important role in the following fields too..Healthcare, infrastructure, drug delivery, solar power,
electronic equipments, power and what not Currently used bulbs convert approximately five
percent of electrical energy into light. With Nano technological approach, light emitting diodes or
quantum caged atoms could lead to strong deduction of energy consumption for illumination.
So now i began to tally up the ways that Nano technology might change laptops. This indicates
how powerful Nano technology is and has lot of potential for further growth too.

Mobile Manners
Cell phones are all around us every day and they produce numerous experiences of obnoxious
behaviors. And to make matters worse, there is an onslaught of new ways to use our cell phones.
The annoying behaviors range from annoying ring tones interrupting movies, meetings, and other
places to people talking loudly on their cell phones in meetings and public places. So where are the
boundaries, the guidelines and the etiquette for cell phone use?

Here are ten (10) positive etiquette rules for cell
phone users.
1. Put your cell phone, pager or other PDA device on
mute or turn it off during meetings and public
performances.
2. Select ring tones that you will not regret.
3. Speak softly rather than talking loudly.
4. Excuse yourself before talking a call.
5. Commit to not talking on your cell phone in
elevators, libraries, museums, restaurants, theaters, places of worship, and other public places.
6. Use the hands free device if you must use your cell phone while in your car.
7. If there is a true emergency, take the call.
8. Keep your cell phone conversations private, rather than subjecting others to your conversations.
9. Keep calm and avoid displaying anger and becoming emotional during a call in a public place.
10. Follow the rules that restrict or prohibit cell phones in public places.
11. Respect the personal space of others by keeping 10 or more feet away from people when
speaking on your cell phone.
12. Avoid interrupting a face-to-face conversation to take a cell phone call because it will show you
do not believe the person is important to you.

Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is traditionally held to be Bhagawan Vyasa's birthday. According to the Indian
calendar it falls on the 15th of the month of Ashada. Bhagawan Vyasa is called Veda Vyasa - or
the Compiler of the Vedas. Bhagawan Vyasa saw that, in the coming yugas, men would be of
grosser mind and would lack the ability to learn and retain all of the Vedas. So he compiled the
Vedas into four parts – the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva Veda.
Furthermore he wrote the Puranas so that the common people could also
benefit from the knowledge of the Vedas - he conveyed the same spiritual
principles through the medium of stories and parables. He is also the
author of the Brahma Sutras - the quintessence of Vedanta. So it is but
fitting that his birthday is celebrated as Guru Purnima.

What is it that you are supposed to know on this day of Guru
                        Purnima?

You must understand that God is in you, with you, around you, above you,
below you. In fact, you are God. Recognise this truth in the first instance.
Do not entertain excessive desires and become beggars. Do your duty
sincerely. That is the true Sadhana. When you are in office, do office work only; do not think of
your family matters. Likewise, when you are at home, take care of the needs of your wife and
children. Do not make your home an office. But today because of too much work in office, people
take office-papers to their homes to complete their work. They are thus facing difficulties because
they mix up their office work, household work, business and spiritual matters.

Right from this day, try to reduce your attachment to the world to the extent possible. Be happy
and make others happy. Do not hurt anybody. Consider difficulties as passing clouds. You have
developed family relationships and there are bound to be some worries. But do not be perturbed
by them. When you look at the vast sky, you find many clouds. Likewise, in the sky of your heart
there are clouds of attachment. They just come and go. Do not worry about them. What is the
shape of worry? It is a mentally created fear. It is the result of your imagination. Every man is
bound to encounter difficulties and losses. We should face them with courage.

From this day of Guru Purnima, make your hearts sacred. Just
as you wave away the mosquitoes that bite you, brush aside any
difficulties that assail you. Do not be depressed by sorrow nor be
elated by happiness. Develop equanimity and strive to attain
                                  Divinity.

Today is described as Guru Purnima Day. This is not quite
                                  correct.
The day got its name because of some gurus who wanted to
have an occasion for receiving offerings from their disciples. The
right name for this day is Vyasa Purnima.

Vyaasa was born on this full moon day. He completed the
codification of the four Vedas on this day. He completed the
writing of the eighteen puranas on this day. Owing to the passage
of time Vyasa Purnima came to be called Guru Purnima.

Serving the Guru
According to Shvetashvatara Upanishad (6/23) :
Yasya deve para bhaktir yatha deve tatha gurau |
Tasyaite kathitaa hi arthaaha prakashante mahatmanaha ||
Translation:Guru be worshipped in the same manner as the deity - God, to attain all there is to
attain on the path of God-realization.
When this Self is within you where is the need to search for
someone to teach you?

A teacher who teaches others has had a teacher himself. The
one who has no Guru above him is the true Guru. The Sanskrit
stanza which hails the Guru as Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara
and as Parabrahman is mis-interpreted. The right approach is to
consider Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara as the Guru. These
three are symbolised by the three gunas: Brahma is Rajas,
Vishnu is Sathva and Siva is Thamas. The whole cosmos is
constituted by the three gunas. The three gunas are present in man. Thetrinity are present in the
form of the three gunas in every human heart.

“IMPORTANCE OF GURUPURNIMA”

        “ å ”

       “ [ : :
               ¢× ^ : “
The above written lines, fully describe the
significance of a teacher in life of a person. The
Purnima of Ashad Shukla Paksha is called Guru
Purnima. It is also called Vyas Purnima.
Tradition of celebrating this day is carried on
since ancient days when students used to have
education in Gurukul. This day, Pujan of
teachers is performed. There are given special welcoming and respect. In the year 2011, this day
will be on 15 July.
Person should wake up early in the morning and complete all his routine work like bathing etc. Then
he should go to meet his teacher. Guru should be seated on a high pew and given respect. Money,
fruits, flowers, clothes etc. should be donated, according to the capability of an individual.
Worshipping teacher increases wisdom of an individual.
India is an ancient and traditional country. Here, Guru is worshipped before God. On Guru
Purnima, teacher is given respect and their blessings are taken by offering them Guru Dakshina.
Guru Purnima is also known as Vyas Purnima. On this occasion Vyaso Narayana, the Guru of
world is worshiped. Hence, this day of Guru Puja is called Vyas Puja. In order to walk on the path
of knowledge and goodness in life, it is must to have a teacher.

Guru Purnima Utsav
On Guru Purnima, birthday of Maharishsi Vyas is celebrated in whole with full excitement. It is
considered auspicious to worship Guru and have their blessings on this day. By the blessings of
Guru, a person leads his life on a spiritual path. The relationship between Master and disciple is
purely a spiritual connection which is not effected by their ages. This relationship of devotion is
based on maturity and manhood. A Student should always have a feeling that by the guidance of
master, he will have spiritual growth and a teacher should think of his disciple’s welfare.
Guru Puja is a day of bowing to the spiritual connection between teacher and student. If teacher
would not have told about the significance of becoming a human and the made them have the
knowledge of soul, then no one would have had the vision of soul.

Guru Purnima Agricultural Importance
On the day of Guru Purnima that is Vyas Purnima, nature’s air test is taken. It is useful for
agricultural and gardening work during monsoon. Vyas Purnima is considered favourable for air
test. This day, prediction is made for the new crops by testing monsoon. And, drought and flood
condition for the next 4 months is forecasted. India is country of agriculture. Hence, this day
becomes more significant.
Maharishi Vyas Jayanti Mela
Maharishi Vyas composed the great Granth, Mahabharata. Additionally, he wrote 18 Puranas,
Srimad Bhagwat, Brahma Sutra, Mimansa etc. He was the son of Rishi Parashar, father of
astrology. Srimad Bhagwat Geeta is a part of Mahabharata. On this occasion of Guru Purnima,
fair are organised in many parts of the country.

Importance of Guru Purnima
Guru is given a higher position than God, because of his qualities and qualification. Guru is called
Brahma. Teacher gives a new birth to his students. Guru is true Mahadev because he forgives all
flaws done by his disciple.

In India, Guru is given spiritual, religious and political significance. During the times of trouble,
teachers have shown a new path to this nation. They don’t just a teacher but, they tell a person that
how to come out from any kind of problem and danger.
Guru takes an individual to light from darkness. In simple words, he can be called the mass of
knowledge.
Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and
always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by
reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from
their Gurus.

What is Guru Purnima?
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of
Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to
this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the
Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus.

Significance of Guru Purnima
On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage
and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'.
This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed
rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your
spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual 'sadhana'
from this day.
The period 'Chaturmas' ("four months") begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual
masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma
Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions.

The Role of the Guru
Swami Sivananda asks: "Do you realize now the sacred significance and the supreme importance
of the Guru's role in the evolution of man? It was not without reason that the India of the past
carefully tended and kept alive the lamp of Guru-Tattva. It is therefore not without reason that
India, year after year, age after age, commemorates anew this ancient concept of the Guru,
adores it and pays homage to it again and again, and thereby re-affirms its belief and allegiance to
it. For, the true Indian knows that the Guru is the only guarantee for the individual to transcend the
bondage of sorrow and death, and experience the Consciousness of the Reality."
At the Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh, the Guru Purnima is celebrated every year on a grand scale.
1. All aspirants awake at Brahmamuhurta, at 4 o'clock. They meditate on the Guru and chant his
prayers.
2. Later in the day, the sacred worship of the Guru's Feet is performed. Of this worship it is said in
the Guru Gita:
                Ú [ :
                                      [
                               [

                   ¢ [
"The Guru's form should be meditated upon; the feet of the Guru should be worshipped; his words
are to be treated as a sacred Mantra; his Grace ensures final liberation".
3. Sadhus and Sannyasins are then worshipped and fed at noon.
4. There is continuous Satsang during which discourses are held on the glory of devotion to the
Guru in particular, and on spiritual topics in general.
5. Deserving aspirants are initiated into the Holy Order of Sannyas, as this is a highly auspicious
occasion.
6. Devout disciples fast and spend the whole day in prayer. They also take fresh resolves for
spiritual progress.

The Guru's Advice
Swami Sivananda recommends: "Wake up at Brahmamuhurta (at 4 a.m.) on this most holy day.
Meditate on the lotus feet of your Guru. Mentally pray to him for his Grace, through which alone
you can attain Self-realisation. Do vigorous Japa and meditate in the early morning hours.
"After bath, worship the lotus feet of your Guru, or his image or picture with flowers, fruits, incense
and camphor. Fast or take only milk and fruits the whole day.
In the afternoon, sit with other devotees of your Guru and discuss with them the glories and
teachings of your Guru.
"Alternatively, you may observe the vow of silence and study the books or writings of your Guru,
or mentally reflect upon his teachings. Take fresh resolves on this holy day, to tread the spiritual
path in accordance with the precepts of your Guru.
"At night, assemble again with other devotees, and sing the Names of the Lord and the glories of
your Guru. The best form of worship of the Guru is to follow his teachings, to shine as the very
embodiment of his teachings, and to propagate his glory and his message."
At the end of my article I would like to say.

QUOTES
The greatest gift on planet Earth is the rare event of an enlightened Master happening in one's life.
He is the ultimate luxury

The Guru is like dynamite because he has exploded in 360 degrees and he has the capacity to
create that same explosion of enlightenment in each and every one. When you are around a living
Master, your potential to experience pure, eternal bliss or nithya-ananda gets heightened.

Be Grateful towards who
Met you with yourself

As you walk with the Guru, you walk in the light of Existence, away from the darkness of ignorance.
You leave behind all the problems of your life and move towards the peak experiences of life.

It is an incomparable journey where the Guru leads you from the visible to the invisible, from the
material to the divine, from the ephemeral to the eternal.

Guru Brahma Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwaraha. Guru Saakshat Para Brahma, Tasmai
Sree Gurave Namaha.

As you walk with the Guru, you walk in the light of Existence, away from the darkness of ignorance.
You leave behind all the problems of your life and move towards the peak experiences of life.

Guru is the important part of our life, guru plays a vital role in boosting the aspirant frequently,
when he becomes despondent or simply runs out of steam. Gurus can lead one on the path of
happiness and help in attaining salvation from worldly existence. The “Gurus” are considered to
represent God himself. Guru is the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance and infuses the light
of awareness into our lives.

First E-magazine of FBIL , NB.!!

  • 1.
  • 2. GARJANA "Nagpur Brahmins" or "FBIL” ( Facebook Brahmins International Ltd. ), some may take as a very narrow minded thought but at the same time it is equally important to think out of the box because such unification is need of the day and need of an hour. With this realization NB & FBIL came into being on 4th April 2011 that is on Varshapratipada / Gudipadwa. Though Facebook is used as a main medium to bring together people of our community, till date many weekly as well as monthly meets have been held (at Nagpur), Picnic and events have been arranged. As a result, members are now contributing hand in hand, with great zeal. It is true, "Pen is mightier than the Sword" so lets make E-magazine a tool to embark with our activities. But for this purpose to fulfill, every member needs to participate voluntarily and give his share in the best possible way. Talking specifically about E-magazine, the team is working for making every edition interesting in the best feasible way and in a year or two, we will be starting with its hard copy too but again for this, member’s response matter! Well, we Brahmins are supposed to have high intellect & knowledge of the "Brahmanda", may be this is the only reason why knowingly or unknowingly we are parted today or are on the verge of it. If we have a closer look, dealing with outsiders (critics) is not something we need to do initially because we already have people best at 'autodeconstruction' .But it’s high time now, we need to get rid of the persisting evil thoughts. As stated earlier, let’s think differently and act practically. Let’s know in detail what exactly our culture says. With 'No Discrimination' as our theme and 'Humanism' as our religion, let’s make "Unite and Rule" our motive. "Together we stand, divided we fall"...So, again to enjoy the long last confluence of Brahmins and feel the real power of Brahmnatva, lets come together and make a difference. Jai Hind! • 8. Friend I had a sweet dream last night My friends and I were traveling in a flight, It was a scene of our picnic tour, We were visiting the palace of Mysore I woke and saw no one around Like a lonely bird fallen on barren ground I want to cry, but there aint anyone to wipe my tears, I want to die, but there aint anyone who really cares I want to show my scars, but there aint anyone with caring eyes, I want to see the stars, but they also left making way for sunrise I am not a freak; I was flying like any other birds, I want to speak, but there aint anyone listening my words, A fear rushed in my mind that morning Is it the beginning of an end or end of the beginning? This is not what I had planned, Sitting alone on No Mans Land So I thought of writing a suicide note There was no point sailing in a sinking boat As I begun to write about my glorious past The clock started to move fast I stopped as I felt absence of light In the moment came the starry night, It felt so good looking at the silver moon, And thought of dying went so soon, I looked at the piece of paper that I wrote, I found that I am not alone like I thought, I realized I can make this paper as my friend Who will stand with me till the End One who can listen what I want to say, One who will be with me all night and day, Now I have someone who never jealous of me, I found my best friend, it was within me.. - Prasad Hatsak. ( www.prasadhastak.blogspot.com ) HE – THE HERO To see happiness on her face, his pains and sufferings he will never reveal To meet her needs, his hard work and efforts,he will always try to conceal Her innocent acts and stupid gestures serve as medicine, for all his illness to heal If at all due to any reason sadness reflects on her face, he will die for that reason to kill He will fulfill all her useless demands and vague desires, and will never show that for him it is a bitter pill Let her be imperfect or let her be obstinate, he will always be cool and never shrill
  • 9. Her ugliness or wilderness will never affect his bill For her, he will always be rich, even though his account shows the balance as nil To let his princess enjoy her life to the fullest, he will never mind to make bread as his meal She is an angel for him, so much of love to feel None other than a daughter’s dad is this hero and forever he will - Udita Desai. www.uditadesai.blogspot.com.
  • 10. A walk I will remember It was a rainy evening. Usually calm blue sky today was covered with dark, black mean clouds ornamented with occasional thunders. I was staring out of window lost in my thoughts. “Why can’t I get anything right? Will I ever be happy? Why am I so lonely on the road to my broken dreams?? Is it raining or those are just my tears I see? Even the nature is angry and depressed like me.” Suddenly he came behind me, closed my eyes and said, “why do u think u are lonely? I am always there for you.” Perhaps it was his presence that dried my tears and I said, “No, I am all alone, I am useless. you see those clouds covering the sky; even my mind is clouded with dark thoughts. Nature and I both are depressed today. But unlike nature I can’t express myself.” I was still thinking when he said, “Come, Let’s take a walk.” “A walk!!!! At this time???? No, I won’t.” I refused. “Why not?? Are you scared?” he said smiling, “I promise it will be a walk you will remember. Let’s go.” We started walking in silence. I was angry and a bit scared and suddenly lightening thundered, increasing my fear. As if reading my mind, he said, “Never get scared of nature, honey. It’s the most beautiful thing in the world if you just observe.” “I see nothing beautiful about this storm. It’s just mud and water everywhere. Look at that tree over there. It is lonely just like me.” I said angrily. “Your eyes see what your mind thinks.” He said, “When I look at the tree I see a warrior facing storm bravely still holding his head high in the sky. And it is not all alone. Because it has his roots, branches, leaves with it and all those make it what it is. You can never be lonely because you have yourself.” “You are right.” His silent smile said everything. Rain had increased and it was darker but we kept walking. He was with me and I felt better. But I was unhappy and sad. “Hey look there.” His voice broke into my thoughts. A small boy was playing with his dog in mud and water unaware of surrounding. The dog shook his body and water drops spread everywhere delighting the child. The boy hugged the dog and they started playing again. I was watching them with envy when he whispered in my ear, “See they are so blissfully happy. Enjoying themselves without worry. If you learn to enjoy those small moments and lose yourself in joy you won’t have to worry about anything. Don’t forget those small moments while running behind the bigger ones.” We went ahead and I saw an old leaf fallen on the ground covered with mud. He picked it up and said, “You might see just an old leaf fallen on the ground but I see here the satisfaction of completing the work, of living a good life. When the time came it fell down to give place for a new life to develop leaving its mark there. Don’t you think same thing happens in our life? We get older and get replaced by new. We just have to make sure; we leave our mark in that work. Nature is always trying to teach us something. It’s up to you to see and learn.” The sky was clearing and so was my mind. Rain had decreased and we started going back when he showed me a rose plant. The roses were destroyed and petals scattered everywhere. A small bud was blooming trying to open its petals. The rain drop fell on it and it was the most beautiful thing I had seen. This time he asked me, “what do you see?” I searched for an answer and I found it. “I see one life destroyed in storm and still there is a new hope opening its eyes starting a new life. The raindrop fallen on the leaf is as beautiful as the one falling in shell turning to pearl. We don’t always get best of the circumstances. It’s up to us to make it the best.” We had reached home. He smiled, ruffled my hair and turned to leave. “Please don’t go.” I pleaded. “I will always be present around you, honey. I am wind. You may not feel me but I will always be there. Whenever you feel sad just close your eyes and I will be there.” Wind was moving away from me. The rain had stopped and sky was clear. Suddenly a flower flowing with wind fell in my lap, promising his presence. He had kept his promise. It was a walk I will always remember

  • 12. Ideal Ganeshotsav Ganpati Bappa Morya !!! Every year, the month of August witnesses a lot of activity and excitement in every nook and corner of the city. All this activity and excitement is the indicator to the much awaited festival Ganeshotsav! This festival marks the presence of our favorite Ganpati Bappa in our homes and hearts. Mass celebration of Ganeshotsav was started by Lokmanya Tilak in the year 1894. The motive behind this was to increase communication between people, share thoughts of Swaraj and thus fuel the freedom struggle with the common man’s contribution. But, over the period of times, this mass celebration has changed agendas. Every year, the city witnesses thousands of Ganeshotsav celebrations from various areas. The trends of these celebrations tend to change every year. To make any Ganeshotsav ideal and productive of colony level, some of the following points prove to be useful: 1. Ganesh Murti: The idol of the lord is the most important factor while conducting this festival. Recently, idols in various shapes colors and sizes have come in the market. One must realize that every god has a stereotypical look and feel that should not be tampered with. One may see ganesh idols with unacceptable props and clothes. This is one front where we cannot and should not experiment. The murti should look serene and calm. Everyone comes to god with a host of wishes and grievances. A calm looking sweet idol is always comforting and it amplifies the sacredness of the place. 2. Vargani: The donation that comes to the organization conducting the festival must be handled carefully. Money matters should be clean and transparent. Valid bills and receipts must be an integral part of the calculation of expenses. One must not forget that this money belongs to the society and hence one is answerable to people. All this money must be put to good use. Any foul play in money matters will have serious implications. When one works for god, one must work with a clean heart and character. 3. Programs: All the programs for the 10 days must be carefully planned taking into consideration the various age groups in a society. The programs must be of interest to everyone. One must not forget the vision the celebration was started with- Communication amongst masses. All the programs must aim at active participation from every age group and gender. Children, youth, mid-aged and senior citizens all are a part of the society and hence must be given equal importance. One must include programs that aim on health, sports, entertainment. One must address any important health, social or political issue of public interest. 4. Ambience: One must not forget that when one works for spiritual events, the complexity of the situation increases. It is very important to maintain the ambience and serenity of the place. We as young people sometimes end up using foul words or unacceptable exclamations. It is essential to avoid such mistakes at a place of spiritual importance. All the musical programs that are conducted must take into consideration senior citizens, babies, ill people and students while they play loud music. The celebration is for the society and not just for the bunch of people organizing it. If one takes into consideration all the above points, one can organize an ideal Ganeshotsav that aims at the social development of our country’s children and youth and will definitely contribute in making a healthy nation. • 14. Varsha Rutu Charya (Life style in Rainy season) - An Ayurvedic view Varsha Rutu lakshan/symtomps:- 1. The wind blows from the vaaruna direction, so all the greenery starts growing. 2. The sky is covered with Indra neela-coloured clouds. 3. Due to heavy rains the steps of the ponds are immersed in the water. The river gets filled up and appears like oceans. The ground is not properly visible as it is covered by rain water. 4. Sounds of clouds, peacock, frog etc are heard. 5. The earth appears as if it is decorated with indragopa (a kind of red or white colored insect), vidyudhota (a flash or luster of lightning) 6. One can see green plants, grass, shileendhra (fungus) all over. One can also see the plenty of kutaja flowers. Changes in the body:- Due to the effect of the aadana kala the body as well as the agni becomes weak. In varsha rutu it gets affected further by rains, humidity, water, amla paka and the dushita jala(impure water). So it is adviced to undergo purification procedures followed by vasti panchkarma. Due to this weak agni 'vata'etc doshas gets vitiated very easily. Due to the effect of clouds, cold wind and cold water plants are in their tarunavastha (young or tender) and have amla vipaka(sour vipaka). So one should not do excess exercise. Pathya:- Yusha(soup),samskruta yusha(processed soup) of purana shali(old rice), godhooma(wheat), yava(barley), jangala mamsa can be taken to protect the weak agni. The food should be natisnigdha(not very unctuous), nati rooksha(not very dry), nati ushna(not very hot) and should have deepana qualities. Madiraa(spirituous liquor), arishta, madhweeka can be taken mixing with honey in very little quantity of water or drink boiled and cooled water from mahendra/Divyajala(rain water)/ kupa(well)/ sarasa(pond) or water mixed with honey. The food and the drinks also should be mixed with honey. One should adopt kleda hara(which depletes moisture) and vata hara food and drinks. One should eat parishushka(dry), laghu(light), snigdha(unctuous), ushna(hot), amla, lavana tasting foods to pacify the vata dosha on the days which have more rains and wind. To reduce the moisture and to balance the doshas one should take kashaya, thikta, katu tasting foods and alpadrava(less liquid) foods. Praghrsha, udwartana (powder massage), snana, dhoomapana, gandhamala dharana(wearing perfumed garlands) are to be practiced. Paste of sugandha dravyas(fragrant drugs) are to be applied on the body. Should live in a place which is protected by reptiles, moist, cold, wind, drizzle (sheekara), mosquito, rats etc. The living room should be warm(should be kept warm with the help of fire). One should avoid the exposure to humidity, so should live in a house which is built above the ground level(vihayasi). The room should not be windy. Should wear light and clean cloths after bath.Should wear cloths which have different designs and should wear different types of garlands around the neck.Use thick blankets to cover the body while sleeping. Apply agaru lepa on the body while going out of the house. Should travel in any veicle and not in open wind. Apathya:- Avoid nadijala(river water), udamantha(barley water), divaswapna(day sleep), atidrava bhojana(liquid food intake), maithuna(sexual intercourse), exposure to cold or frost(tushara), padacharana(walking with naked legs), vyayama(exercise) and exposure to sunrays. Avoid exposure to frost and avashyaya(drizzle), sunrays. Avoid excess vyayama, atijalapana(drinking more water). Avoid the exposure to drizzle.Avoid ajeerna etc digestive problems. - Anand Kulkarni.
  • 15. BIG NANO WORLD... Nanotechnology is the branch of technology in which the manipulation of nano (tiny) materials at atomic or molecular scale is done due to which its properties differ significantly from those larger scale molecules. In the past the phenomena was already put to use in the field of sunscreen and cosmetics. But now the new technology will be used enormously in the field of healthcare, filtration, Infrastructure electronics, power etc. The first time the idea of Nanotechnology was introduced in 1959 when Richard Feynman, a physicist at, Caltech gave a talk titled “There is plenty of room at the bottom” and then Drexler’s vision of molecular manufacturing evolved the field in 21st century. In this new technology all the materials are measured in scale of Nanometers (nm)and the particles of size 1-100nm are considered as Nano –materials 1nm=10 -9 (10 to the power minus 9) meters and 1000 nm=1 micrometer. We have thousands of applications of these tiny molecules:- (Very few of them are given below) PURIFICATION - Much water today is wasted because it is almost but not entirely pure. Simple, reliable mechanical and electrical treatment technologies can recover brackish or tainted water for agricultural or even domestic use. These technologies require only initial manufacturing and a modest power supply. Physical filters with Nanometer-scale pores can remove 100% of bacteria, viruses, and even prions. The ability to recycle water from any source for any use can save huge amounts of water, and allow the use of presently unusable water resources. It can also eliminate downstream pollution; a completely effective water filter also permits the generation of quite "dirty" waste streams from agricultural and industrial operations. This was the very basic working process of these Nano particles. Nano particles play very important role in the following fields too..Healthcare, infrastructure, drug delivery, solar power, electronic equipments, power and what not Currently used bulbs convert approximately five percent of electrical energy into light. With Nano technological approach, light emitting diodes or quantum caged atoms could lead to strong deduction of energy consumption for illumination. So now i began to tally up the ways that Nano technology might change laptops. This indicates how powerful Nano technology is and has lot of potential for further growth too. Mobile Manners Cell phones are all around us every day and they produce numerous experiences of obnoxious behaviors. And to make matters worse, there is an onslaught of new ways to use our cell phones. The annoying behaviors range from annoying ring tones interrupting movies, meetings, and other places to people talking loudly on their cell phones in meetings and public places. Guru Purnima Guru Purnima is traditionally held to be Bhagawan Vyasa's birthday. According to the Indian calendar it falls on the 15th of the month of Ashada. Bhagawan Vyasa is called Veda Vyasa - or the Compiler of the Vedas. Bhagawan Vyasa saw that, in the coming yugas, men would be of grosser mind and would lack the ability to learn and retain all of the Vedas. So he compiled the Vedas into four parts – the Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva Veda. Furthermore he wrote the Puranas so that the common people could also benefit from the knowledge of the Vedas - he conveyed the same spiritual principles through the medium of stories and parables. He is also the author of the Brahma Sutras - the quintessence of Vedanta. So it is but fitting that his birthday is celebrated as Guru Purnima. What is it that you are supposed to know on this day of Guru Purnima? You must understand that God is in you, with you, around you, above you, below you. In fact, you are God. Recognise this truth in the first instance. Do not entertain excessive desires and become beggars. Do your duty sincerely. That is the true Sadhana. When you are in office, do office work only; do not think of your family matters. Likewise, when you are at home, take care of the needs of your wife and children. Do not make your home an office. But today because of too much work in office, people take office-papers to their homes to complete their work. They are thus facing difficulties because they mix up their office work, household work, business and spiritual matters. Right from this day, try to reduce your attachment to the world to the extent possible. Be happy and make others happy. Do not hurt anybody. Consider difficulties as passing clouds. You have developed family relationships and there are bound to be some worries. But do not be perturbed by them. When you look at the vast sky, you find many clouds. Likewise, in the sky of your heart there are clouds of attachment. They just come and go. Do not worry about them. What is the shape of worry? It is a mentally created fear. It is the result of your imagination. Every man is bound to encounter difficulties and losses. We should face them with courage. From this day of Guru Purnima, make your hearts sacred. Just as you wave away the mosquitoes that bite you, brush aside any difficulties that assail you. Do not be depressed by sorrow nor be elated by happiness. Develop equanimity and strive to attain Divinity. Today is described as Guru Purnima Day. This is not quite correct. The day got its name because of some gurus who wanted to have an occasion for receiving offerings from their disciples. The right name for this day is Vyasa Purnima. Vyaasa was born on this full moon day. He completed the codification of the four Vedas on this day. He completed the writing of the eighteen puranas on this day. Owing to the passage of time Vyasa Purnima came to be called Guru Purnima. Serving the Guru
  • 17. According to Shvetashvatara Upanishad (6/23) : Yasya deve para bhaktir yatha deve tatha gurau | Tasyaite kathitaa hi arthaaha prakashante mahatmanaha || Translation:Guru be worshipped in the same manner as the deity - God, to attain all there is to attain on the path of God-realization. When this Self is within you where is the need to search for someone to teach you? A teacher who teaches others has had a teacher himself. The one who has no Guru above him is the true Guru. The Sanskrit stanza which hails the Guru as Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara and as Parabrahman is mis-interpreted. The right approach is to consider Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara as the Guru. These three are symbolised by the three gunas: Brahma is Rajas, Vishnu is Sathva and Siva is Thamas. The whole cosmos is constituted by the three gunas. The three gunas are present in man. Thetrinity are present in the form of the three gunas in every human heart. - Gajanan Deshpande “IMPORTANCE OF GURUPURNIMA” “ å ” “ [ : : ¢× ^ : “ The above written lines, fully describe the significance of a teacher in life of a person. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus. What is Guru Purnima? The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. All Hindus are indebted to this ancient saint who edited the four Vedas, wrote the 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagavata. Vyasa even taught Dattatreya, who is regarded as the Guru of Gurus. Significance of Guru Purnima On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'. This day is of deep significance to the farmers, for it heralds the setting in of the much-needed rains, as the advent of cool showers usher in fresh life in the fields. It is a good time to begin your spiritual lessons. Traditionally, spiritual seekers commence to intensify their spiritual 'sadhana' from this day. The period 'Chaturmas' ("four months") begins from this day. In the past, wandering spiritual masters and their disciples used to settle down at a place to study and discourse on the Brahma Sutras composed by Vyasa, and engage themselves in Vedantic discussions. The Role of the Guru Swami Sivananda asks: "Do you realize now the sacred significance and the supreme importance of the Guru's role in the evolution of man? It was not without reason that the India of the past carefully tended and kept alive the lamp of Guru-Tattva. It is therefore not without reason that India, year after year, age after age, commemorates anew this ancient concept of the Guru, adores it and pays homage to it again and again, and thereby re-affirms its belief and allegiance to it. For, the true Indian knows that the Guru is the only guarantee for the individual to transcend the bondage of sorrow and death, and experience the Consciousness of the Reality." At the Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh, the Guru Purnima is celebrated every year on a grand scale. 1. All aspirants awake at Brahmamuhurta, at 4 o'clock. They meditate on the Guru and chant his prayers. 2. Later in the day, the sacred worship of the Guru's Feet is performed. Of this worship it is said in the Guru Gita: Ú [ : [ [ ] [È ¢ [ "The Guru's form should be meditated upon; the feet of the Guru should be worshipped; his words are to be treated as a sacred Mantra; his Grace ensures final liberation". 3. Sadhus and Sannyasins are then worshipped and fed at noon. 4. There is continuous Satsang during which discourses are held on the glory of devotion to the Guru in particular, and on spiritual topics in general.

They also take fresh resolves for spiritual progress. , ] The Guru's Advice Swami Sivananda recommends: "Wake up at Brahmamuhurta (at 4 a.m.) on this most holy day. Meditate on the lotus feet of your Guru. Mentally pray to him for his Grace, through which alone you can attain Self-realisation. Do vigorous Japa and meditate in the early morning hours. "After bath, worship the lotus feet of your Guru, or his image or picture with flowers, fruits, incense and camphor. Fast or take only milk and fruits the whole day. In the afternoon, sit with other devotees of your Guru and discuss with them the glories and teachings of your Guru. "Alternatively, you may observe the vow of silence and study the books or writings of your Guru, or mentally reflect upon his teachings. Take fresh resolves on this holy day, to tread the spiritual path in accordance with the precepts of your Guru. "At night, assemble again with other devotees, and sing the Names of the Lord and the glories of your Guru. The best form of worship of the Guru is to follow his teachings, to shine as the very embodiment of his teachings, and to propagate his glory and his message." At the end of my article I would like to say. ] Compiled from Net - Gauri Wasudeo Khatkhedkar.
