Differences between,[object Object], Digital Natives(students today ) ,[object Object],And,[object Object], Digital Immigrants(students 30 years ago),[object Object],What do they prefer…..? According to Ian Jukes and Anita Dosaj, The InfoSavvy Group, February 2003,[object Object]
Students today prefer…,[object Object],receiving information quickly from multiple multimedia sources,[object Object],parallel processing and multitasking.,[object Object],processing pictures, sounds and video before text,[object Object],random access to hyperlinked multimedia information,[object Object],to interact/network simultaneously with many others,[object Object],to learn “just-in-time”,[object Object],instant gratification and instant rewards,[object Object],learning that is relevant, instantly useful and fun,[object Object]
Students 30 years ago prefer…,[object Object],slow and controlled release of information from limited sources,[object Object],singular processing and single or limited tasking,[object Object],to provide text before pictures, sounds and video,[object Object],to provide information linearly, logically and sequentially,[object Object],students to work independently rather than network and interact,[object Object],to teach “just-in-case” (it’s on the exam),[object Object],deferred gratification and deferred rewards,[object Object],to teach to the curriculum guide and standardized tests,[object Object]
The Differences around students,[object Object],Tools,[object Object],・Teaching / Learning tools ,[object Object],     the Internet, audio, video…,[object Object],Environments,[object Object],・Learning environments,[object Object],     online classes,[object Object],・Everyday life,[object Object],     TV, video games, the Internet, iPod…,[object Object],Society,[object Object],The differences around students affect their changes,[object Object]
Students are different,[object Object],The brain changes and organizes itself differently based on the inputs it receives ,[object Object],           from “Do They Really Think Differently?” by Marc Prensky,[object Object],People are changing and developing themselves depending on the needs they have in their life. Students are living in a different world than the one digital immigrants were in. Students have changed because they are always using new technologies. This is similar to the way our ancestors developed languages for their communication out of necessity.,[object Object]
Instructional Technology in the Classroom ,[object Object],     Students today are different. It doesn’t mean they can not learn , or that we can not teach.,[object Object],    They have preferences for learning , so if the method teachers use match their style of learning, they could learn more effectively.,[object Object],My teaching,[object Object],     As a teacher, we should be flexible and adaptable. I would try different types of technology in my class and find out what teaching style matches with my students. Also I would pay attention to what is going on in our society today and keep myself updated because I think education is influenced by society.,[object Object]
