There are many reasons why you shouldn’t steal music. Here are four basic ones. Stealing music is against the law. Stealing music betrays the songwriters and recording artists who create it. Stealing music stifles the careers of new artists and up-and-coming bands. Stealing music threatens the livelihood of the thousands of working people—from recording engineers to record-store clerks—who are employed in the music industry.  IT IS THE WRONG THING TO DO!!!!!!
$12.5 billion of economic losses every year, 71,060 U.S. jobs lost, a loss of $2.7 billion in workers' earnings, and a loss of $422 million in tax revenues, $291 million in personal income tax and $131 million in lost corporate income and production taxes.   Our public services –education, police, fire, sanitation Health care, government – are funded by TAX dollars How will an reduced amount of taxes impact us as well?
Hefty Price Tag That Many Families Pay  Illegally downloaded material can expose computers to viruses, malware, spyware, or other unwanted software, all of which can crash your computer and lead to costly computer damage, loss of irreplaceable files, or even identity theft.
It’s in the Constitution!! Copyright spurs creativity, just as the Founding Fathers said in crafting the Constitution Without creativity we can only follow the paths someone else has made, instead of making our own.
Consequences If you do not have legal permission, and you go ahead and copy or distribute copyrighted music anyway, you can be prosecuted in criminal court and/or sued for damages in civil court. Criminal penalties for first-time offenders can be as high as five years in prison and $250,000 in fines. Civil penalties can run into many thousands of dollars in damages and legal fees. The minimum penalty is $750 per song. The same holds true for images ,software and videos.
What the Law Says and What it Means If you make unauthorized copies of copyrighted music recordings, you’re stealing. You’re breaking the law, and you could be held legally liable for thousands of dollars in damages. You won’t find these messages on music you’ve downloaded illegally, but the full weight of the law applies just the same.  Having the hardware to make unauthorized music recordings doesn’t give you the right to steal. Music has value for the artist and for everyone who works in the industry. Please respect that.
Direct copyright infringement is a strict liability offense. That means it doesn’t make any difference if you knew what you were doing was illegal, or even if you knew that the music was copyrighted. If you download music from others online, you are liable. And parents are often responsible for the legal actions of their children. So far, parents have been paying to settle claims against their children, even as young as twelve years old.      In addition, since the parents typically own the computer and control the Internet access, they might be held liable for their children’s actions under contributory theories
