The next slide addresses some common rationale for investing in eLearning. The Level 1 rational is built upon reducing travel costs, doing low budget training,  doing things “quick and cheap”. (low ROI) The upper levels (3 – 5) have their foundations on leverage, increased revenues, improved client satisfaction, etc. (high ROI) Before you migrate a course, find out the investment rationale.
 
Remember – use Blended Learning during Curriculum Development. Pre and post learning elements must be part of your design. ASTD, 2005 study

Level 2 Attributes of a Level 2 Course: Level 1 plus… Animation Stronger Instructional Design Narration More complex assessments Advanced Interactions Effort:  8 - 10  weeks
Level 3 Attributes of a Level 3 Course: Level 2 plus… Video Case Scenarios Decision Branching Advanced Instructional Design Performance Based Advanced Interactions Effort:  > 10  weeks based upon media required
Estimated Project Pricing Levels Level 1   Text, graphics, assessments, some interactions Price: $13 - $15K Level 2 Level 1 + interactions every 3 screens, stronger instructional design, case studies, game, audio, etc. Price: $18K - 22K Level 3 Level 2 + very strong instructional design, animation, video, higher engagement, deeper immersion, etc. Price:  $26K and above PowerPoint Conversion Approximately $3K assuming that instructional design effort is included. Template Approximately $7K - $9K
In addition to the five levels of elearning discussed, documents and publications can also be converted to online learning training. The pricing for these forms of conversions are usually below $9K. Creating an eBook or  flipbook is usually lower in price. Immersive games and virtual reality training are two newer areas of learning that require a separate process and pricing model.
Selecting a Project Define a project that has a senior manager who supports it and will act as the project champion. Select a project that has tested and readily available content (if possible). Know your expectations and requirements – be realistic. Understand the information that is presently gathered which might become part of your measurement and analysis tasks, e.g. # of customer objections. Determine if the course should be developed in-house, vendor contract or off-shore outsourcing. Depend upon methods, project management, QC, and team communications to manage the project.
Pre-Work SoftAssist uses a 6 page Requirements Analysis document to capture information on needs, measurements, style, colors, assessment, IT standards, media, SCORM, Section 508  compliance and many other  concerns.
Manage the project flow; establish task deadlines and responsibilities; track changes; and perform quality control throughout.

  • 3. The next slide addresses some common rationale for investing in eLearning. The Level 1 rational is built upon reducing travel costs, doing low budget training, doing things “quick and cheap”. (low ROI) The upper levels (3 – 5) have their foundations on leverage, increased revenues, improved client satisfaction, etc. (high ROI) Before you migrate a course, find out the investment rationale.

  • 15. In addition to the five levels of elearning discussed, documents and publications can also be converted to online learning training. The pricing for these forms of conversions are usually below $9K. Creating an eBook or flipbook is usually lower in price. Immersive games and virtual reality training are two newer areas of learning that require a separate process and pricing model.
  • 16. Selecting a Project Define a project that has a senior manager who supports it and will act as the project champion. Select a project that has tested and readily available content (if possible). Know your expectations and requirements – be realistic. Understand the information that is presently gathered which might become part of your measurement and analysis tasks, e.g. # of customer objections. Determine if the course should be developed in-house, vendor contract or off-shore outsourcing. Depend upon methods, project management, QC, and team communications to manage the project.
