1. QUESTION 1
In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
2. A REAL MAGAZINE
Masthead – Since the main
cover photo overlaps the
masthead, it shows the
magazine is promoting itself
to listeners of the artist rather
than the magazine itself. This
is common magazine
convention
Puff – This is a different
colour to the rest of the page
and so stands out but also
incorporates the house style,
it attracts anyone in the
audience who may not be
interested in the artist
pictured.
Cover Lines –
Justified to the right
hand side. Includes
other bands that may
be of interest to
readers
Main Cover Line – Brightly
coloured and large so stands
out from the rest of the
magazine
Issue Date, Barcode and Price
– these are a very common
and necessary magazine
convention.
Main Cover Line –
Description in white to stand
out from the black, also asks a
rhetorical question in order to
make readers who haven’t
heard of Paramore interested
in reading the article.
Banner – Advertising a
different artist (now lecturer)
to the one pictured.
Advertising to a wide r
audience.
The magazine convention isn’t
common but I have seen it on
a few magazines and decided
to use it. I have developed this
as mine is linked to my
banner and stands out on the
page
3. COMPARING A REAL MAGAZINE COVER TO MINE
Masthead – Since the main
cover photo overlaps the
masthead, it shows the
magazine is promoting itself
to listeners of the artist rather
than the magazine itself. It is
dark and doesn’t stand out as
much as the main over line.
Puff – This is a different
colour to the rest of the page
and so stands out, it attracts
anyone in the audience who
may not be interested in the
artist pictured
Cover Lines – Justified to
the right hand side.
Includes single word titles
in order to stand out, then a
description . Main Cover Line – Brightly
coloured and large so stands
out from the rest of the
magazine
Issue Date, Barcode
and Price – These are
essential magazine
conventions and so it
was vital I put these in.
Like the NME
magazine.
Main Cover Line –
Description is different
colours in order to match the
rest of the magazine but also
to stand out against the black
of the model’s jeans
Banner – Advertising freebies.
This attracts people who may
not be interested in the artist
pictured as well as those who
may
Main Cover Image – stands
out from the rest of the
page, uses dark colours to
match the genre chosen.
Wears dark clothes to
match the music genre
House Style – I have kept a
limited use of colours, only
using Black, White and Royal
Blue. I have also integrated
the use of a blue/grey colour
for the puff
