Voice is the writer coming through the
words, the sense that a real person is
speaking to us and cares about the message.
It is the heart and soul of the writing, the
magic, the wit, the feeling, the life and
breath. When the writer is engaged
personally with the topic, he or she imparts
a personal tone and flavor to the piece that is
unmistakably his/hers alone. And it is that
individual something–different from the
mark of all other writers–that we call Voice.
Agenda
• Open to P.145
• Define “Voice”
• Read an example of “voice”
• Rewrite an old fairy tale to show
voice
• Add voice to your 1st draft
Warm-Up:
Discuss the following
• Why we used a family tree for “Visit to
Grandmother”
• Why we used a diagram on P. 123 for the
building of the future
• Why we used a Venn diagram for “Games
at Twilight”
Lastly, discuss what these three
underlined things have in common
P. 144

- P. 145 with one partner
- Self-assessment by
