  1. Global Warming is in the news. It seems like everyone's "going green." We're glad you want to take action, too. Luckily, many of the steps we can take to stop climate change can make our lives better. Our grandchildren-and their children-will thank us for living more sustainably. More and more businesses are jumping on the eco-friendly trend. If you watch any amount of TV you're sure to have noticed many of the large brand name companies such as Johnson and Johnson and others dedicating whole commercials to their efforts to make more environmentally friendly products and to adapt to more green manufacturing processes. Going green isn't just a wave of the future. It's simply the only option we have for our planet if we are going to survive and thrive. If you are considering starting a small business, why not research some ideas that would be compatible with this trend. It's not only a smart move; you'll feel great about your business too. Let's start now

  3. Some of the greatest threats to future resources come from things we throw away everyday. Household batteries and electronics often contain dangerous chemicals that may canuse problem, if sent to a local landfill, leak through the bottom barrier and pollute the groundwater. This can contaminate everything from the soil in which our food grows, to the water which will eventually come out of aquifers and into our tap water. Many of these chemicals cannot be removed from the drinking water supply, nor from the crops that are harvested from contaminated fields. The risks to human health are tremendous. Throwing away items that could be recycled diminishes energy, water and natural resources that could be saved by recycling. Did you know... The more we throw away, the more space we take up in landfills. When a landfill becomes a “landfull”, taxpayers have to build a new one. The less we throw away, the longer our landfills will last. The amount of taxpayer money we save by extending the longevity of our landfills is an important community benefit. The average global temperature has already risen by 0.74 degree centigrade in 2005 an air conditioner of 2.5 tonne emits 3 kilogram of Carbon Dioxide, microwave generates 1.3kg of CO2, a Geyser emits 3.3 kg of CO2 an hour. A car that gives mileage of 10 kilometres per litre of petrol leaves 232 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The list goes on... our computers, music system, TV, Radio Set, IPod, Hair Dryers, Washing Machines, electric stoves, electric shavers etc.

Install compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) when your older incandescent bulbs burn out. Unplug appliances when you're not using them. Or, use a "smart" power strip that senses when appliances are off and cuts "phantom" or "vampire" energy use. Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible. As much as 85 percent of the energy used to machine-wash clothes goes to heating the water. Use a drying rack or clothesline to save the energy otherwise used during machine drying. If you must use a dryer, consider adding dryer balls to cut drying time. Save water to save money. Take shorter showers to reduce water use. This will lower your water and heating bills too. Install a low-flow showerhead . They don't cost much, and the water and energy savings can quickly pay back your investment. Make sure you have a faucet aerator on each faucet. These inexpensive appliances conserve heat and water, while keeping water pressure high. Plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. Many plants need minimal watering. This saves on gas and parking costs while improving your cardiovascular health and reducing your risk of obesity. Consider telecommuting if you live far from your work. Or move closer. Even if this means paying more rent, it could save you money in the long term. Lobby your local government to increase spending on sidewalks and bike lanes. With little cost, these improvements can pay huge dividends in bettering your health and reducing traffic. Eat smart. If you eat meat, add one meatless meal a week. Meat costs a lot at the store-and it's even more expensive when you consider the related environmental and health costs. Buy locally raised , humane, and organic meat, eggs, and dairy whenever you can. Purchasing from local farmers keeps money in the local economy . Wear clothes that don't need to be dry-cleaned. This saves money and cuts down on toxic chemical use. Invest in high-quality, long-lasting products . You might pay more now, but you'll be happy when you don't have to replace items as frequently (and this means less waste!). Keep electronics out of the trash. The big secret: you can make very effective, non-toxic cleaning products whenever you need them. All you need are a few simple ingredients like baking soda, vinegar, lemon, and soap. Making your own cleaning products saves money, time, and packaging-not to mention your indoor air quality.
  5. Operating a green business is not only good for the environment but good for your business's bottom line because conserving resources and cutting down on waste saves money. The good news is that whether you run a home-based business or an off-site enterprise, there are simple things you can do to run an environmentally friendly business. Recycling is the first thing that comes to mind when we think of being environmentally friendly. And recycling is important. But recycling is only one part of the environmentally friendly business equation. We can also take a large step towards being more environmentally friendly by reducing the amounts of waste in our offices and business operations. Here are just ten easy-to-implement ideas for running a green business from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's Greening Operations guides that you can put into practice right now to make your office a more environmentally friendly place: Turn off equipment This can reduce energy used by 25%. Turning off the computers at the end of the day will additional 50%. Encourage communications by email read email messages onscreen to determine whether it's necessary to print them. By using a fax-modem and by using a fax cover sheet only when necessary Fax-modems allow documents to be sent directly from a computer, without requiring a printed hard copy.

And I think being a student of SGI they will provide me enough support and motivation to accomplish this task. I met with the chairman of SGI with my team mets including Anamika and Sakshi and he assured my to give full support. As our chairman mr p.k. gupta is a very visionary person we belive he certainly provide us all kind of support. We planeed to initiate the project from greaternoida as we observed the there a lot of manufacturing industries are here and also Greater Noida is under the SEZ so we can expect some sort of support from government as wel as from the industries. And I had send the project in the ET business ideas event as well and eagery waitning for the positive response….
