scrap import prices (CFR Taiwan Port) dropped slightly by 0.3% week-on-
week at $353 a ton in the week ended May 2nd this year, as per the latest
figures released by the The Steel Index.
According to TSI, scrap index for containerised Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 fell by
$1 a tonne last week as the looming restrictions on electricity consumption appeared to put
mills off buying scrap in the same quantities seen recent weeks.
With most mills traditionally running only 2 shifts instead of the usual 3 over the summer
months, appetite for scrap has naturally dropped.
Domestic demand for long products also remains weak, further dampening scrap demand.
