Learning Objectives
 You can outline how you challenged real media
conventions alongside discussing how you included
  them in your productions
 Relate to the wider context and your knowledge of
  genre, narrative and representation
Real Media texts
AS Main Task
 For the Main Task strong answers would discuss
developing skills in textual analysis following work on
    the TV drama unit.
 Think about the study of semiotics
(connotation/denotation) in the choices you made.
 Learning a range of different shot distances form
existing texts and composition techniques (rule of
thirds, depth of field, framing) and editing techniques.
 Think about how your skills in textual analysis helped
you at AS, in particular semiotics.
 How did you think about the genre of the film - how did
this relate to your decisions about mise-en-scene or did
    you neglect this?
Features to discuss
 Editing Pace (number of shots, length of shots)
 Use of Intertitles, logos.
 Use of locations (variety)
 Lighting
 Character types
 Narrative structures and themes
 Characters (type, how many)
 Costume
 Use of dialogue
 Sound (diegetic & non-diegetic)

schema (what they know already) –
  expectations – familiar pleasures etc.)
 Narrative (Character (artist) types, themes,

Micro Detail
 You discuss the macro features of your work by
  discussing the micro detail:
 Video – editing, cinematography, mise-en-scene &
  sound
Being Reflective - QUESTION
 Remember to state how using real media conventions
or challenging them benefitted your production.

Refer to;
 Professional practice
 Aesthetic appeal of your work
 Does it fit the genre?
 You could refer to audience feedback to help you with
  this.

 1. Answer or give point of view to question.
 2. Outline briefly what you made each year.
 3. Explain to the examiner how you are going to
structure the essay (by looking at pre-production,
  production and post-productiom
Structure
Question
